Is there a difference between the two? I am 37 and work for a large corporate bank. I'm also am a member of a volunteer SAR team. I serve now on a volunteer basis doing Search and Rescue and figured I be interested in serving on larger scale.
Anybody have a advise on how to get started?

I'm pretty sure, but not 100% positive that you're outside of the age range at this point. If that is true, Coast Guard Auxiliary would still be an option. It's a volunteer arm (of course understand it's ALL volunteer) of the Coast Guard community. They wear slightly different uniforms (silver instead of gold devices).
