Can anyone comment on this process for the USNA? My daughter has filled out the sports questionnaire along with her NASS application. She has filled out the NCCA eligibility form. She had an opportunity to meet with the sports team coach when she went for her CVW. Just wondering if anyone could offer any other advice on recruiting for sports? She made it very clear to the coach that she wanted to be part of his team during her CVW!

Is your DD a Junior trying for NASS or a Senior trying for an appointment for Class of 2016? My DD also spoke to the coach of her sport and was given the honest assessment, which she already knew to be true, about the quality of athlete the USNA recruits. That isn't to say she can't "walk-on". During Plebe Summer he told her that each Plebe has to choose a sport to participate in during one of the blocks of time and that is where they get the opportunity to see the athletes. As far as being an RA to help with getting an appointment? She should probably continue to contact the coach and follow the NCAA rules.

I would add to mdrob's recommendation that most coaches prefer to communicate with the prospects' coaches regarding performance, awards, etc. Best wishes regardless.

i have a swimmer who was contacted by the coaches during her junior year, they kept in contact w/DS via email until after 12/1, which is when SAs can actually talk to the athletes (as per NCAA). she went to NASS and then flew up to annapolis for a recruiting trip; she verbally committed in nov of her sr. year knowing that usna was the place for her. she received her appointment in early december.

i assume that a coach will pursue if there is heavy interest. if not, the athlete should not give up his/her desire to further an athletic career. i know of a swimmer who was not recruited and walked on. she is currently on the varsity team.
