My son got a letter from one of his MOC that said glad you applied but if it doesnt work out consider ROTC. Does he already know that my son isn't getting an appointment?

I would speculate not beyond his own nomination. He may be doing same as USNA does re: nominating sources, tobe helpful and informative of all sources. At this point, I'd not read into this beyond face information.

Does your son have a nomination? Was this letter to inform your on that he did not receive a nom? If your son has a nom, he still has a chance. If all of his sources of nominations have all released their lists and your son has no nomination, his chances are exceedingly small (essentially zero) for this year.

Back to WP's recommendation: don't read too much into the MOC's letter at this point. Quite frankly at this point in the process there are lots of prospects still under consideration for an appointment, and lots of candidates sitting on fully qualified offers. If USNA is plan A and everything is completed, work on plans B, C, D, etc... Best wishes.

Thanks for the sound advice. Very hard to stay sensible as he has declined a few good scholarship offers [swimming] to wait for USNA. Has nominations from both Senators and Congressman from our district, but I understand that in the scheme of things that means very little. He has applied to 2 schools with Navy ROTC so we will be focusing on those campuses after the HS swim season ends.
