NASS

My youngest son recieved an email from USNA admissions this past week inviting him to apply for NASS this summer. He is very interested in NASS, his older brother attended last summer and is currently anxiously awaiting his BFE, the only problem is that he is only a sophomore in High School this year. We know that NASS is open only to kids in between their JR. and SR, High School years so my question is do we inform the Academy of his correct grade or just ignore the email for now and apply next winter? He doesn't want the academy to think he is not interested in attending.

I would either call or email the admissions office and advise them that you recieved the email. It's possible that someone used the wrong grade and/or high school graduation year somewhere along the line and that's why he was sent the NASS email.
They won't think bad things if you don't apply to the SS. Many people don't apply because they know they have commitments during the weeks that NASS is held; the Academy understands this and won't penalize anyone for it.

A mass emailing of 'Invites to apply to NASS' came out over the weekend based on PSATs (and other standardized tests) that were taken at schools across the country.

My son also received one-which was concerning to him at first because he filled out the application for NASS about 1 minute after it opened.

I would recommend just putting your son on the official email and mailing list. -And perhaps considering STEM if that is still open for applications.

I concur with notifying USNA about your son's age/grade. If he truly is interested in NAVY he should look into STEM or a sports camp.

I received an invite at the end of my sophomore year. This was my first time hearing about the Naval Academy and it cost money to go up there, so I didn't go. It got me thinking about it though. When they invited me again in the Fall of my junior year, I had no hesitation in going.
