My son was notified that he received a Principal Nomination from our Congressman just before Christmas. MOC was contacted by the academy late last week that my son's LOA will be going out this week. Like many, we thought we would have to wait until the end of March. So glad the wait is over. Good Luck to everyone still waiting! Hope you receive some good news soon!

Little confused. An LOA, for the air force academy, means everything in your application is 100%, and you walk on water, and IF you pass your DODMRB and your receive a nomination, (ANY NOMINATION), then you are "ASSURED" an appointment. Hence the abbreviation LOA (Letter of ASSURANCE). For Army and Navy, they are similar, except they will hand out an LOA prior to he application being completed. So for them, they mean the same, except they also need to complete their application.

So, if your son has received a Principal Nomination, and their application is completed, (Which it had to have been done by now), then there'd be no reason for LOA. There isn't anything left to be completed. (Unless he hasn't been medically qualified in the DODMRB). So he should receive an appointment. NOT an LOA.

I stand corrected. My son will be receiving his "appointment" to the USAFA this week. He received a Principal Nomination. Thanks for the explanation. All these abbreviations can get a little confusing.

From fellow Pennsylvanian, my sincere congratulations to you DS. Best of luck to him and your entire family. I am quite sure he will serve his country well.

These are words which are found on the grounds of the Academy:

"Integrity First, Service before self, Excellence in all We do."

Good Luck and God Bless to you all,
