Acronyms

Hi. I'm a parent of a prospective candidate and new to this forum, although not new to the general application process. That said, I keep seeing a lot of acronyms that I don't understand. What is a:

BFE?
DD?
DS?
CVW? (Is that Candidate Visit Weekend?)

I think I have all of the other ones down. Sorry to sound like such a noob. The funny thing is that I went through this process myself almost 30 years ago, and I don't recognize half of these terms.
 
BFE- Big Fat Envelope- what you receive when you get an appointment
DD- Dear Daughter
DS- Dear Son

with other acronyms that are not specifically pertaining to service academies, I find the urbandictiony.com highly useful. These are acronyms such as IMO, etc.

Yes, CVW=Candidate Visit Weekend
 
TWE, Thin White Envelope, what you don't want...
 
NN WRT TWE. DS LOA in TWE after PC from BGO.

Translation: Not necessarily with respect to a thin white envelope. That is, a thin white envelope does not always contain bad news. For instance, my son's Letter of Assurance came in a thin white envelope about a week after the phone call from his Blue and Gold Officer.


LOL. You would think that with all the monstrous processing speed at our fingertips, we would be able to just type out the words we want to use.
