Here is a list of the courses I've taken in high school and what I will take next year as a senior. I would appreciate any responses to how I will look to the Academy in terms of class load. I've made an A in all of these classes, with the exception of future grades as they are unknowable at this time. I'm ranked 13/496 at my school and hopefully that will get better as the school year progresses.

Grade 9:
Honors English 09
Honors Biology I
Honors Algebra I
Spanish I
Men's Choir
Aerospace I (AF JROTC)
PE/Health and Wellness (Required to graduate...not my choice)

Grade 10:
Honors English 10
Honors Chemistry
Honors Geometry
AP World History (Passed the exam)
Spanish II
Chamber Choir (Most advanced option for choir; audition required)
Aerospace II

Grade 11:
Honors Algebra II
AP US History
AP English Literature
Honors Physics I
Spanish III
Chamber Choir
Aerospace III

Grade 12:
Honors Pre-Cal/Trig
AP English Language
AP US Government and Politics
AP Macroeconomics
AP Physics B (with a class period for lab)
Chamber Choir
Aerospace IV

These courses are locked in, and there's nothing I can do to change them. I know I'm lacking Calculus but my math teacher advised EVERYONE against doubling up in classes in order to get to it (i.e. he wouldn't approve of it. Thus, we couldn't get a counselor to consent to it) Other than that, I think I look okay. I'm hoping the AP Physics will help obscure the absence of AP Calc.

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Everything looks good. I know a couple of my friends that took AP Calculus or even Pre-Calc at a community college over summer and took the next math course during the school year. You might want to look into that.

In addition, a sport would be great to your application. You have AF JROTC but I still think that a sport would help you physically.

Best of luck.

Just remember, grades are only one part of what USCGA is looking for. They want a "whole" that shows grades (plus SAT/ACT scores), leadership, athletics, community service and the right attitude. While grades are important, make sure that you are taking care of the other things as well.

Have you talked to an AO? They will give you great advice on what The Academy is looking for.

I believe that I read on a different forum sight that CGA requires Calculus(despite the fact that they don't say so...) It might be incorrect but that is just what I heard. As far as Competitive Courses, they are definitely competitive.

I think it's more important that you have the foundation for calculus. It's better to have a solid foundation of all of the pre-calc topics than to shakily know calculus. They'll place you accordingly in a math class

One thing to keep in mind is that admission representatives from the Academy frequent this site. It may or may not be a good idea to say you are trying to hide an absence of AP Calc, when people who may be reviewing your profile already know what you are trying to do. Good luck!:thumb:

When did I say I was trying to hide that I didn't take AP Calculus? I'm simply trying to make myself look better even though I haven't taken it. I've tried to take it, but I can't. It's not that I'm choosing to omit it from my schedule.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to advertise that I didn't take it, but I'm not sure where you gathered that I'm somehow lying about my lack of Calculus or being dishonest. I'm simply trying to MAKE UP for it, not HIDE it.

I'll look into the math/college thing, though. If it doesn't cost too much I may be able to work it in.

Thanks for all of the help!
