Im currently in the process of applying to west point and I wanted an outside opinion of how my shot is looking. I am a junior taking AP classes with a 4.2 GPA. I'm a varsity athlete on 4 sports (soccer, swimming, track, Lacrosse and a 1 year captain of the soccer, track, and swim teams) and I hold various leadership positions. These include a summer swim team coach, a summer soccer camp counselor, a DECA officer, and i'm an NHS member. I have not taken the SAT or ACT tests but Im signed up to take them in March and April. How do i look regarding SLS and actually acceptance to West Point?

Looks good to me, just try to throw some more community service stuff in there. Maybe Habitat for Humanity or something like that.

Thank you! I have also recently been named leader of a community service project supporting muscular dystrophy. I appreciate the advice!

Also: Apply for Boy's State through the American Legion and run for a student office in your school (Student Council or class President)

I certainly agree with the Boys State comment. With your team captain positions (in my opinion only) would be a desireable thing to have... not a necessity.:thumb:

By your credentials I would say you have a good chance of admission. If I were you, I would also prepare for the CFA. As you've probably heard, the basketball throw is quite awkward and difficult for some experienced athletes who have not practiced it.

Just wondering...
How are you a varsity athlete in four sports? did you switch sports some year? The high school I do sports at (I homeschool) only offers three seasons. I do sports otherwise, but only can count the hs ones as varsity.
But you look pretty good. Especially if you get that community service on their too.

Haha I thought the same thing. At my HS Lax/Track are in the same season, and we just have 3 as well.

You seem great, I guess just do well on your ACT/SAT/standardized tests.

The key here is 60% academics!!!!!!! SAT/ACT Number one on the list. Of course this also includes the next most important: Class rank then GPA. NEXT: 30% Leadership and you are doing very well there! last but very important is the CFA or 10% atheletics! The better you do on the CFA the better...if you are at risk on one you are at risk on the test! PRACTICE PRACTICE. Let nothing get in the way of the 60%! NOTHING!

Clearly you should be on more sports teams and raise that GPA. A 4.2 just won't cut it, try to get a solid 5.0.

Hey now, I'm graduating with a 4.95, don't go mocking me o_O

But on a serious note, you are looking great for admissions, just make sure you don't slack off. Motivation and determination is the name of the game, and is key to getting in.

Good luck to you!

Good Luck

Boys State.. was big for my DS
I believe it helped him get into SLS.
SLS was an opportunity for him to see if this was really what he wanted.. Also you get to take care of your CFA while your there. Just another thing you dont have to worry about..

I suggest focusing on the ACT.. for some reason you get better results on it.

And start on your Nomination ASAP.. The sooner you get your Nom. the better your chances on receiving an LOA

I am a varsity athlete in 4 because my high school offers a club lacrosse team that I play on and its considered a varsity sport because we play against other high school teams in the area

I really appreciate all the ideas! Any and all suggestions are welcome. I've already filled out an application for boys state I just need to talk to the American Legion in my area. I appreciate the reviews as well of my progress!

Thanks. And you look pretty good to go IMHO (assuming you continue as you have been doing).
