I my DS received an email from our local parent's support group saying "Congratulations on your appointment!! Here is a list of local events......" His DC was copied on it too. Only problem is, my DS has not received anything from West Point! So, do they know something we don't know? Could something be lost in the mail? Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!!!

I just got the same E-mail as well from my own district, I'm hoping for the best! I read a thread on here about a Cadet last year who was informed this way before receiving his actual appointment... Time to sit tight!

I don't like it personally.

I am in the SE region. For my state, the admissions database gets updated Tuesday afternoon with new appointments (from what I seen so far and told that the admissions committee meets every Tuesday). I noticed that the actual notification takes several days. I believe the admissions office will usually give the MOC an opportunity to notify the candidates first. If not, perhaps email or the candidate portal status changing, than a thick envelope.

So if your DS hasn't gotten a call from your MOC or the status on the candidate portal has not changed, the chances of an actual appointment diminishes.

I hope I am wrong. Best wishes.

Or contact the parent group and ask them how they know.

I sent an E-mail and got a reply:

I am so sorry for the confusion. I was given a list with your name on it saying that you are qualified and that I could contact you with regard to our parent club. Unfortunately, I don't know whether or not you have been actually admitted.

Please accept my sincere apologies. It would probably be best to contact the officer assisting you with your admission packet for additional information.

I knew not to get too excited! Looks like it's back to stalking my mailman

Or she refuses to let the cat out of the bag. Of course I have no way of knowing. Don't get the postman so scared he quits delivering to your house.

Do not believe unofficial sources. Parent Clubs are a very unreliable source. WP does NOT send any official admissions decisions to these clubs. Parent Clubs should not send ANY information to candidates until they are officially notified by West Point. Shame on the parents club for geing involved during this emotional waiting time for candidates.

I don't see how this is helpful, kinnem.

I agree with Big Nick....ignore unofficial sources. West Point would not pass something along to a parents' group before you learned your status and accepted your appointment.

Jeez. I also said I have no way of knowing. Of course one only trusts official sources. Goes without saying. Sorry if I offended or inadvertantly mislead anybody.

I guess I don't see how a flippant, offhand remark helps a worried teenager desperate for any word from West Point about a possible appointment, even with your disclaimer. JMO

That was very careless of the parents' group- I fault them for the way they handled this. Anything said here is pretty small potatoes compared with their faux pas, in my opinion. So sorry that the families in question have to deal with the extra bumps in the roller coaster ride.

Mistakes happen. They screwed up. Let's not go pole-vaulting over mouse turds. The parents club screwed up, they meant well.

Sometimes a mistake is just a mistake. Treating everything as a grievous, life-altering error worthy of the highest rebuke is a sad symptom of our overly litigious society. So let's set a better tone here. The parents club acted in good fath but dropped the ball.

Everything in good time.

Good point!

I was reacting to the complaining about posters here- feeling that the real issue was outside the forum- but I take your point.

The real issue is how much we all care about our kids and their futures- making this time pretty nerve wracking.

MY DS contacted the DC and they said 'keep waiting', no news yet. So parent's club jumped the gun and should have reworded their wording.
