My DS and DH (dear husband) attend/attended USMMA, so I feel like i should know the answer but don't...long story longer a friend of a friend is asking for advice. Their son was wait listed and they wonder what the chances are of getting in. How many people are on the list and how many people get in. How long after opening day are they typically called? Luckily we never had to worry about any of this, but I am also unable to help them. TIA

Best advice is to have the candidate call Admissions and ask his questions.
My own opinion is that "Wait Listed" applicants are probably called on, or before, the reporting date (when applicants find they have been accepted elsewhere and decline USMMA). I doubt anyone is called once Indoc starts.
But call Admissions.

It is my impression that all the Principal candidates are notified in March/April, and then they dig into the waiting list in May/ June until the class is filled.

Tell your friends to contact admissions and to hold on and wait. DS got acceptance in November but I know this year the kids from our state are finding out much later. I know that some kids take time to "think about it" but get cold feet... and I've heard of kids being contacted even in June that they're in. I know waiting isn't fun... so it's good to have a plan B. But it's worth it should it work out. Best of luck to your friends.

One more thought- we have a boy up in the northern part of our state that is in the same boat. Apparently admissions told him he was shy a few points on his SAT. He has retaken the SAT (is waiting to hear how he did on them). Hopefully it will turn out well for this kid... I admire that he's taking steps to make himself more of a strong applicant.

Regards!

Definitely this. I received my appointment in January, whereas I hadn't even applied until February last year, they have that going for them . Have the student call and inquire by himself, it shows independence and discipline in itself to do so. Try to find out if they can do anything to add more points to their application.

Likewise

I think im on the waiting list too, i've worked really hard to get everything in scoring 100% on push ups and sit ups and 2 shy of pull ups for the cfa, along with longs study nights for sat and such, only to find out im about 16 points away from an early acceptance letter. the only thing you can really do is wait, but the swim coach ive been talking too tells me that good test scores will give your application a boost. waiting stinks!!!!
