So today is my deadline to accept, which I am about to fax in. But i just wanted to ask before I do so, i am sure some are familiar with my situation. I was awarded a 4 year to UNC and didnt get in. I was also awarded a 3 year to ECU which I got in. Like 2 days ago I just found out I was getting my UNC application reconsidered. I then emailed cadet command and tried to call but have not yet heard from them with my request for an extension to see if I get into UNC now, which I should hear from in 2 weeks. What should I do? Just so everything is clear my deadline for my acceptance is No later than 2/29/12 which is today! Thanks!

You should have had your paperwork received before COB (close of business) to minimize any confusion about your meeting the deadline. Your pushing the envelope has put your scholarship in jeopardy. That being said, since they did not grant you any extension, you should proceed as if your request was declined. You might want to invest in a trip to Kinko's if they have them in your area as I remember they will give a receipt of what was sent and when it was sent in the event that CC's fax machine is currently on the blink to show that you at least attempted to get your paperwork in.

If you are lucky enough to still have your scholarship in place, you should take this as a lesson that in the military, there isn't a whole lot of flexibility with regards to how programs are administered. If they decline your paperwork because it wasn't in before they left the office, consider it a life lesson. Sorry to be blunt, but you've had quite a bit of advice around here and you seem not to be reading between the lines that the choices here are not yours and the rules of the program are set and to be adhered to strictly.

Best of luck.

Well first off, you may have already missed the boat on this one. It is now 7:30pm at Ft. Knox which means it is past the end of the work day for Feb. 29th. If you real quick you may be able to make it to the Post Office before they close so your letter can be Post Marked today, not sure if that is enough or if they need it in hand on the 29th. If you fax it, and scan it and email to them they may accept it or may not since they won't receive it until tomorrow Mar. 1st. I wouldn't waste anymore time, get to the post office quickly.

Now for your main question, nobody can tell you what to do. It's sort of that old "Bird in the hand" saying. On one hand you have the 3 yr to a school you have been accepted to but also a 4 yr to a school that is taking another look at your application. There is a risk in taking the 4 yr to UNC if you don't end up getting in. You have to ask yourself if you would be happy with the 3 yr at the other school, if your not then take the 4 yr, hope for the best, if your not admitted then try and transfer to the other school if you can. I do not envy your position and I wish someone could give you the answer your looking for but in the end the decision is yours alone to make.

Again all this could be a moot point since your acceptance will arrive late to Cadet Command. Hopefully they will accept it past the due date.

Good luck, let us know what happens.

I would both fax the letter and scan and email the letter plus get to the Post Office quick so it is post marked today.

Edit: Goliedad beat me to the punch.

You are playing (or played) with fire on this one....in the real world (where I work) when it says "No Later Than" it means get it there a day or two before - never leave anything to chance. Once the office closes for the day, it means anything afterwards is late. Nonetheless, scan/email it and fax it immediately. Personally, I would take the 3 year to ECU....there are no guarantees with acceptance to UNC. If you get accepted to UNC in a few weeks and really want to go there - go there. Work your a** off and try earn a 3 year scholarship. I'm assuming you live in NC, so in-state tuition to UNC isn't too bad. This is just my opinion - take it for what it's worth.

One last quote you will need to learn to live by in ROTC...

If you arrive early, you are on time. If you arrive on time, you are late. If you arrive late, don't even bother to show up.

Since you seem set on UNC you should have accepted the 4 year weeks ago when you first asked for advice. If you then could not get UNC to reconsider you could have attempted to transfer the scholarship. You have let things drag on too long looking for a sure bet. There is no excuse for being late as you now are. You should ask my DS about being late. He has no chance for an in school NROTC scholarship this year because he submitted it a day late. If you are fortunate enough to get clemency for being late make sure it never happens again. Officers are paid to make, perhaps life and death, decisions in stressful environments where perfect information is unavailable. You failed to do so here. As I said, don't let it happen again.

I accepted the 3 year to ECU. I completely understand and appreciate the advice you all have given me, but to be fair, I emailed and called multiple times this past week to cadet command on requesting an extension due to the fact that my review from UNC would take about 2 weeks. They never responded so I was just waiting to see If I ever got a response. Hopefully they will understand that and see the missed email from me if I is an issue. It said no later than 2/29/12, and I submitted on 2/29/12 not the smartest move but still within the boundaries of the deadline. I am the kind of person that tends to over analyze untill the end, but no use for crying over split milk. Thanks again for all the info.

Also for anyone who comes across the issue of transferring a scholarship, I talked to the recruiter for my brigade and he said that when it comes to transferring a scholarship it doesn't matter what you had a 3 year or 4 year, its what funding the school has left. He said the schools will be aware that I had the 4 year offer even if I accepted the 3. So since I accepted the 3 and if I want to transfer it wither I had a 4 year or 3 year scholarship previously is irreverent.

Good luck. ECU is a fine school. In fact I was in Greenville earlier today with my ECU grad bride of 21 years. The cherry trees in town were in full bloom. Beautiful! Hope all works out well for you despite the earlier stern post. And most importantly, WORK HARD AND HAVE FUN! :thumb:

The issue was not meeting the deadline, it was that the email and fax would not reach Cadet Command prior to the end of business today. I hope they are willing to accept the letter a day late.

Good luck, I hope it all works out for you.
