Hi, folks--
By way of background, I am a high school teacher who, because I am a USMC veteran (via PLC a long time ago), has ended up as a resource for students at our school interested in the service or the SAs. One young man, a current senior whom I taught earlier in high school, has applied to USNA and has a congressional nomination. He is a strong student, with SAT scores over 2100 combined, but is playing the waiting game.
Today when I asked him about his "Plan B and Plan C" if not offered an appointment to USNA, he told me that his alternate plan is to enlist under a program that guarantees a slot at USNA after 2 years in the Fleet for students with 700+ Math and CR SAT scores. I've not heard of such a program (he called it something like "2 for 5"). My not having heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist, of course, but I am a bit worried that a recruiter may have taken a likelihood that a student with such good grades and scores will be offered a chance at USNA coming out of the Fleet, and spun it into what this young man thinks is a "program" with a guarantee. He is smart but rather naive.
Has anyone heard of something like this? I have a contact at USNA Admissions to consult but this is a busy time of year so I thought I'd also ask some of the helpful posters at SA Forums.
Thanks.
