If im not mistaken I believe i get the task of creating the "Citadel acceptance" thread for the class of '16

I just received my Citadel acceptance letter.

I hope to see more posts from those accepted. Good luck and congratulations to all.

Also, thank God that we are able to live in a country that allows us to pursue a higher education.

eagleman,
Congratulations on your acceptance to the Citadel Class of 2016!

May I ask where you live? I have not heard of others getting their acceptance letters. Did you get a letter in the mail? Email? Call from Admissions? Just curious how Citadel informs candidates....

Thanks and congrats!

Congrats on your acceptance! Our son received his acceptance letter on 8/24/2011! We live in North Carolina. The letter came US Mail.

I submitted my app on aug 23rd.. how long does it usually take to hear back?? I'm eager to know lol.

Also, I'm from MA. Does your online status change at all if you've been accepted?

thanks

It usually takes a month or less if you apply early. I have no idea what you mean by "online status."

Hi, and Congratulations.

My son is a Knob at The Citadel as I type. He reported 2-weeks ago today. He will be experiencing his first Saturday Morning Inspection (SMI) today. From these 2-weeks, I've learned a new cadet recruit must:

Be physically fit.
Be mentally tough. This may be more important than being physically fit.
Learn to eat foods you do not particularly like.
Must function with minimum of sleep.
Break in their shoes. Buy good quality socks.
Take care of their feet/Prevent blisters. Cellulitis is being reported in many cases. Some so severe that Knobs are required to drop out.
Must rely on their roommate and fellow cadet recruits. Total strangers on matriculation day, but who will become trusted and reliable friends within hours.
Not become a lone wolf. You will not be successful by yourself.
Remain positive.
Grow thick skin. One cannot be over sensitive. The cadre will quickly begin on you on day 1 while you're in line to report to your assigned company on Matriculation Day.

There are others, but, I hope these few quick tips will be helpful as you prepare yourself. Your Matriculation Day will be here before you know it. Again, congratulations to your acceptance to The Citadel.

If you very qualified, not longer apparently. I personally know 2 people that have already been accepted.

Martin94 there is no online status to refer to like the service academies. You will receive an ACADEMIC ACCEPTANCE ONLYand then I believe a medical clearance and then your transcripts and then a complete acceptance letter is sent out later. It is a process that happends over time. My son is a knob this year from MA. Best of luck. Be ready and prepared - mental toughness is more importance than physical toughness. You'll be tested from the MOMENT YOU STEP INTO YOUR BATALLION. You'll sweat, you'll be scared, you will have fear and you will never be the same. My son has cracked, not slept, been mentally and physicaly challenged to the core in the first 10 days. He is settling as well as can be expected and he seems somewhat optimistic and has begun to sign up for things and is happy about his classes, etc.. but it is hell on earth for a knob. Be prepared to leave the life you knew behind and step into a whole other world. My son said it is a shocking change. Sorry to give you harsh words, but it is the truth. Do all your research and your parents too. Best - Waltham MA

Citadel Admission

My DS received a phone call tonight from Citadel advising him he had been accepted and the next step was to send in a deposit and more info would be arriving in the mail.

accepted in sc

DS received his acceptance letter early Nov 2011about a month after sending his application. Ironically, it came in the mail the day he interviewed for the AFROTC scholarships he did not know he had been accepted during his interview. A week later he was offered the only full paid AFROTC scholarship the Citadel has to offer, he promptly accepted it.

Knobs should report in a plain t-shirt, plain shorts, crew socks and athletic shoes. It makes it easy to change into the dark blue PT clothes if you already are wearing the socks and shoes. Remember to break in the black leather oxford dress shoes. The best thing to do is get them ASAP and start wearing them. My son wore them every where. Don't worry what your friends at home might say. You'll be really happy they are broken in once you report. If you don't, the blisters and irritated feet WILL happen. Make it easy on yourself and have them broken in. The second most important advice is to make sure you are able to meet the minimum requirements for sit ups push ups and the 2 mile run BEFORE you report. If you are on an ROTC contract your goal should be to meet the maximum PT requirements. Every cadet, including seniors must pass the PT test. You cannot receive your diploma if you do not meet or exceed the minimum PT requirements.

Great info, thanks citadel11mom.

After seeing one knob's feet at his pre-knob visit my son is ready to get shoes NOW so he can start breaking them in!

Hello all,

I received my acceptance letter a few months ago (I'm a forum newcomer).
Awesome information citadel11mom.

I'll be at the last pre-knob in April.

Does anyone have any recommendations in regards to the Citadel Success Institute?

Respectfully,

Future Knob

Does anyone have any recommendations in regards to the Citadel Success Institute?

I will be attending the Citadel Success Institute this summer in the July term. When I did my pre-knob in November I talked with a couple cadets about it and they said it is well worth doing. They mentioned getting some credits out of the way is really helpful because you can focus more on the other aspects of the school, while CSI in general lets you acquire a better understanding of the school as a whole.

Whatever you decide to do, I would recommend submitting an application soon so you can reserve a limited spot.

Good Luck

CSI

My son is a knob, and CSI was the best investment we ever made. If you can afford the $2500, it is worth every penny. He frankly says that he doesn't think he would have survived knob year (36 days until Rec Day, woo hoo!) if he hadn't attended CSI. The academic credit is certainly worth it, but more important is the relatively gentle immersion into the eventual brutality that is the Fourth Class System. When we checked in to CSI, within three minutes he had been ordered twice to tuck his shirt in, yelled at to "stick a Sir on that," and generally made to feel as though he was off less consequence than dirt. It's a good introduction to the life that you have chosen. It's also a chance to PT in Charleston weather, which takes some getting used to.

My DS will be attending the CSI in June and he is excited to get started. The cost has went down to $1750.00, thank goodness for that. He is already registered. I think it will be a great investment for him.
