CAC ID Cards for Cadets

Do Cadets get Active Army ID Cards?

Yes, you will receive a CAC, but they specify that your grade is cadet, and though they may have changed it, the ID no longer specifies "active duty" on it. There are various forms of CAC, though, as the design has changed several times in recent years. The original CAC said "Active Duty" but the most recent iteration does not.

Thanks Scout!

Do you get them on R-Day? or Re-orgy week?

Back in the day it was during the summer, but the CAC didn't exist then. It's definitely not R-Day.

Why the concern?

he wants to show off his CAC...

they keep making changes to them, and the most recent was a memo stating there is to be no more SSN's on any ID cards (and most army forms now too). they assign you a DoD ID number.

You'll get issued your CAC card during reorgy week when you go to pick up your laptop. CACs for cadets say "Academy" for affiliation and "Army" for agency/deparment but they don't specifiy active duty on them.

And if you're curious, it says Rank is Cadet and pay grade is STDT for student.

And the Geneva Conventions Category is III.

Might as well throw it out there while we're at it. :thumb:

Use of CAC

Active duty and DOD Civilians also use the CAC ID to access government computers. Cadets won't need it during the summer, if they are issued their laptops at the beginning of the fall academic semester (unless Beast is now "virtual").

Hey, DOD could save some money if Cadet summer training was on Xbox instead of on site! Then the academies could use the savings to prevent more reductions in class size. :shake: The training could be called "Call of USMA Duty" (or USAFA, USNA, etc.)!!!

Just trying to keep my sense of humor . . .

They already have "Call of USNA Duty" but it's called "Donkey Kong."
