DS and I are flying out to Denver and driving down to the academy on 3/19 - 3/20. He applied for a cadet visit but the request was rejected as they are already booked for that day. He is disappointed, but we will be visiting anyway and I want to make the best of the situation.

Given this scenario, what is the best that I can do? I really don't know. I am guessing I should take the self tour of the academy and schedule an apppointment with an admissions officer. Is that correct? Is there anything else we should do?

DS is a HS Junior, top 3% ranking of large public school, top ACT, varsity athelete, not a recruited athelete, etc.

I appreciate your thoughts !

I'm in the same scenario right now because I applied a few weeks ago but they were full because they cap the daily tours at 50 guests. I emailed the academy representative back asking if they had a wait list for the days that I applied and I also asked if they had any other days they were offering tours before recognition. So far I haven't heard back but when I do I'll let you know!

PM Me. I'll see what I can do.

Same here if the first two don't work out for you. My son's already done a couple "unofficial" candidate visit tours for others and I'm sure would be willing to help you out. Good luck! :thumb:

As a form of redundancy, I can help out too if you can't work something out. Unofficial tours are easy to set up.

So what would be the difference between an unofficial tour and a tour scheduled through the academy admissions facebook page? Would you be able to visit the cadet area and meet with a counselor, or would it be restricted to the visitors center?

We are allowed to escort visitors in the cadet area (class, dorms, etc.). If you need a meeting with your counselor you would have to set that up yourself, but if you want a day in the life of a cadet you can arrange that with any willing cadet on here.

First of all, thank you USAFA Falcon 15, bsa07eagle, marciemi, Rage 14, scraper, and USAFA10s for your offers to help. I am humbled. It really says a lot about you guys in specific and the folks that are on these forums in general.

bsa07Eagle,

Thank you for sharing as I was not aware of that information. I did not realize a cadet could take a visitor to class, the dorm, etc. This is exactly what I was hoping my son could experience. I am going to try to set up a meeting with an admissions counselor.

All,

I gotta share what happened yesterday. As I said in my original post, my son had requested a "official" visit and it had been denied because the visit slots were full. In his request, my son requested a cadet from our city to escort him, if possible. My son had not spoken to the cadet. Well, that specific cadet, Rage 14, was one of the folks that offered to help. So I think we are all set.

Thanks again!

When our son was a Junior in HS, we contacted a Firstie (senior) at the Academy who had been an acquaintance of our daughter from her HS graduating class. He was gracious enough to offer us a personal tour of the Academy if we were to visit from California. Over Spring break, the three of us flew out, and he spent an entire morning giving us a thorough tour of Fairchild, Vandenberg Hall, the Field House, gym and pools, and Arnold Hall. A LOT of walking. My husband and I then took off to explore the Springs and he took our son to lunch at Mitch's and to a couple of his classes. Our son then went to Summer Seminar, and made one last visit for orientation after receiving his appointment (sadly, they're not doing this anymore). After all those visits, and a very clear and thoughtful understanding of what life would be like there, he finally made his decision to accept his appointment. He's now doing extremely well and looking forward to being Cadre during first BCT this summer. So yes, a private tour from a current cadet can be INVALUABLE.

I just found out from the Academy Admissions Facebook page that they are completely booked the week of my spring break (March 19-24), and that they do not have a waiting list. With that being said are there any cadets out there who have the time to spare and are willing to let me and my father shadow them for a day - or even just part of your day. I can provide contact information and additional information if requested, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

P.S. - I'm a candidate for the Class of 2016 and I'm interested in Aerospace engineering and would like to be either a pilot or in space/missile operations while serving in the military.

I am sure I could, but I am a senior, so that is a slightly different perspective (although in my opinion a better one than following a freshman). I am sure others on here would be happy to as well so I would choose based on what classes you would like to see/what you want to do while you are here

@Nathan - I sent you a PM as well (well, actually 2 of them since the site locked up on me then both went through!).
