I submitted the initial application (little as it asks for) on March 1st. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to review it. It still says pending review. I know they are still working on 2016 and Summer Seminar, but I'd just like an idea of how long it took for it to be looked at.

Thanks!

It will take a while, my son managed to have a good deal of the full application narratives and information complete since he went to the SS last year and they used that application as the body of the pre-app. Apparently the Academy is no longer doing this and everyone has to submit a pre-app.

As I recall, my son received notice in the form of a PDF letter in the mailbox section of his application status page which stated his application had been reviewed, he was qualified, and his application kit would open mid-July, his status page read "Applicant". It did open in a couple of weeks and the paperwork advised he complete everything in 45 days as a goal. Since he had so much done, he did it in much less than that (including DODMERB).

After another month or so (end of Aug) he received another PDF letter stating he was an official candidate for appointment with a nomination and his status changed to Candidate. Since then, his page has remained pretty much unchanged except for updated ACT/SAT scores, new MOC nominations, etc.

Hopefully that will change soon!

Good Luck!

Whether you apply today, tomorrow or in May, they will not change the status until July.

They change on the same day for everyone they have cleared through regarding the PCQ.

Traditionally, people like Flieger and CC, both ALO's will tell you at the end of June when the AFA expects to release the list of applicants. It usually comes out around I Day.

So sit back and wait, you can post this a thousand times, check the portal every day, but it will only frustrate you when you see "pending".

Most likely if you go to SLS it will change at that time, since that is the time frame. It has nothing to do with you going to SLS, everything to do with the AFA release date.

When you said that your app was "pending review", are you implying that the application process is all done electronically? Sorry I was just wondering, I thought it was sent in the mail.

I am also an applicant for 2017. My status stopped saying "pending review" several days ago and now says "Competitive". My status is still Applicant, though.

Mine was Applicant pending review. Now it still says applicant but also competitive. I wonder if they changed something from last year. I'm afraid that long wait has now come.
Did everyone who said it would take a while mean for the actual status to be 'candidate'?

The biggest piece of advice I can give as a qualified candidate for the class of 2016 is that you should not obsess over the status changes on your profile. It is pointless and you could better utilize your time and energy.

To answer your question, they review your PCQ and determine if you are academically competitive. If so, they will change your status to "competitive" and your status will probably then change to "candidate" sometime in July. After that, it's pretty much no change at all, except that when it turns to "candidate", I believe "competitive" turns to "Incomplete". Then, when you have completed your application, it will say "complete".

Feel free to check, but it won't change until July. Don't sweat the small stuff.
