Summer Seminar 2012

Seems to have been a lull in Summer Seminar discussion in the past week or so. Has anyone else heard good news or bad news? Anyone else still waiting?

Still waiting...

I know two people that have been denied already, so I'm thankful that I'm still alive. The admissions department said that it could be April before some people hear back, so it looks like we may have quite a long way to go for a definitive answer. That being said, it sounds like they've began cutting people. Both of the denials I speak of have visited the Academy before, so I'd say that if you've ever been, a denial is in your future; the common theory, and it is ONLY a theory, is that they are catering the program to people who have never been while still remaining on a competitive basis. (i.e. if you've ever been before, you're denied and if you haven't, than it's still competitive as usual.)

Again, this is just the theory I've heard floating around. I wouldn't exactly trust it or stress over it. Good luck to you! Hopefully I'll see you there!
 
I applied late December and still am "under consideration." Hopefully they notify us soon! I've heard of people in previous years getting notified within a week or 24 hours. Good luck to everyone. Has anyone got accepted yet?

It is my understanding that they have only notified about 1/3 of the total so far.....Hang in there.
 
I emailed my son's ALO about our visit next week to the academy. I mentioned that DS applied for summer seminar but I specifically said I was not asking about the status of his SS application. I was asking about how to visit the academy and what to do since the official visits were full on the days of our visit (already have flights and hotel). BTW, I think we are set for our visit next week.

Anyway, in the response from someone at USAFA early this morning, they said there were close to 4000 applications for summer seminar and the competition is tight for the last spots. Also said they hoped to be finished with decisions in a few days. Not sure when we will hear anything but I wanted to share the information I received...

For those already accepted, by when do you have to notify the academy if your attending? I'm thinking perhaps they'll send out notices after that date for open spots from people who were accepted but couldn't attend.
 
Same here...applied back on 1/1/2012, my application still says "Applicant", nothing new for a couple months now.
Honestly though, the suspense is killing me, guess I have to just wait it out eh?
 
Same here I applied 2/5/2012 and it still says "under consideration". If I didn't make it I would honestly like to know. How many slots have been filled already because their are two contradicting statements in this thread. One says only 1/3 of applicants have been filled, and the other states that a majority of the applicants have already been notified. Does anybody know which one is correct? Also we should update this thread on any updates,positive or negative, that we receive.
 
Well it took 3 months, but about a week ago my liason officer left me a message saying he wanted to interveiw me. It's a positive sign. However, I'm still waiting for him to call me back.
 
Just got accepted to Session A summer seminar words can't describe the excitement can't describe the joy I have. Good luck to everybody else.
 
I emailed the summer seminar staff the other day and was told that 2000 people have already been denied, so it's a good thing if you're still under consideration:)

did you get to chose what session you wanted to attend? and what did your status exactly change to when you got accepted? thanks and congrats:)
 
I heard this morning that I was accepted to Summer Seminar, received an email at 5:59am Eastern Time which I thought was kind of strange. When I went back to the admissions page to choose a session I could see the number of slots available. As of about 9am today there were 59 slots available for session A and 17 for session B. Session C is already full. So it looks like there are only about 76 spots left and some these might be allocated to people who were offered a slot but have not yet choosen a session. I was told to respond by March 30th at the latest. Looking forward to seeing everyone in June. Time to start running a little bit more.
 
DD is still "under consideration". We just found out today that she has been nominated by her school principal for Girls State. Is this new information likely to have any effect on her admission to summer seminar? If so, what is the best way to update? Principal wrote an extremely complementary letter and would love to be able to forward it if possible.
 
If your DD is invited to Girls State, that would take a higher priority than attending Summer Seminar. If she is invited to SS make sure that the dates of both events don't conflict before commiting funds to SS. If there is no conflictions, she will have the best of both worlds. Good luck to her.

Great advice. Girls State will impact her WCS and Summer Seminar won't. Again, hopefully she can do both. Good luck. :thumb:

Accepted but had to decline :(

I applied on December 14th and was "Under Consideration" as of December 15. I was officially accepted to the USAFA SS this past tuesday. However, I am already signed up and paid for the Summer Seminars at the USNA and USMA, as well as NJ Boy's State. This means that I'm missing 3 weeks of school in June so I can't take on another Summer Seminar. Wish I could've gone, but good luck to all of you still waiting, hopefully one of you gets my spot!
