I'm interested in applying to one of the Service Academies for the class of 2017. Anyways, my district's congressman just resigned, and it seems that his post will remain vacant until a new congressman is elected in November. How this would change the process of applying for a congressional nomination?

Even though your congressman resigned, the staff will remain to help answer questions, respond to mail etc for the district. My guess would be that they will coordinate the process like its been done in the past but then hold all potential nominee paperwork until a replacement is elected and the selection process can be finalized. If I remember correctly from last year when my son went through this, senators and congress have until Jan. 31 to submit their lists of nominees to the academies so there would be time to select the nominees after an election. Each congressional/senator's office usually has an academy coordinator or someone who handles those duties, so maybe you should give your congressional office a call just to see what their thoughts are about this situation.

There's also another possibility - Our congresswoman did not nominate anybody last year to any SA apparently because the former congressman had not done so and by the time she took office and got things in hand, it was too late. Her noms were obviously probably used by the national pool, however, due to that, she has 3 openings at USAFA this year to fill according to her outreach person in our area.

Best and Good Luck

Similiar situation but better - New Congressman, reviewed the nomination made by the previous Congressman than made additional nominations.
