Falcon Dilemma

I am a Falcon scholar with a HUGE dilemma!

Over my past year at Marion Military Institute, I have done very well as a Falcon scholar. I made a 4.0 my first semester, being only 1 out of 7 cadets to make a 4.0 throughout the whole school. I am currently on track to make a 4.0 this semester as well. I have scored well on my CFA and made a 298 out of 300 on the Army Physical Fitness Test (that is the other PT test we take at Marion). After taking some SAT/ACT prep classes, I bumped my ACT up from a 29 to a 31. I have also done many other things within my company, and around the school. After all of this, I believe I have completed the Falcon Foundation program fairly well.

BUT, my biggest dilemma is that, when I went to interview for my nominations, I did not receive one from my state at all! I am not qualified for a Presidential nom, so the only options I have are the VP nom and a possible Superintendent nom.

Should I be worried? Or, does anyone think that since I was such a strong Falcon scholar, did well on all the aspects of the Falcon Foundation requirements (except the nomination part, of course) that the Falcon Foundation and USAFA will push for me to get either the VP nom or the Superintendent nom? I would HATE to not receive an appointment after doing SOOO well in my application!

Please any suggestions or questions are greatly appreciated!!

I am sorry to hear about your situation. Call General Kelly, the President of the Falcon Foundation. You should have his cell phone number. My son had a question about his Falcon situation and Gen. Kelly was very responsive and helpful. I believe that he wants all of his Falcons to succeed as AF officers. He is your go to person. . .

I have been in contact with Gen. Kelly before. I will keep in contact with him until the mass amount of appointments come out.

It may help you to know that my son was also Falcon scholar and he had 2 classmates (also Falcons) that experienced the exact same issue. They were both very worried. But, they are both members of the class of 2014!

I would echo other's advice and call though (his classmates both called also)!

Don't panic. This has happened before. In fact, it happened last year to our son. He attended MMI as a Falcon Scholar, performed well, and did not receive a nomination from our congressman or either senator. He was not eligible for a presidential nomination. USAFA gave him a vice presidential nomination some time in April and he is now a member of the Class of 2015. Advice--immediately notify Colonel Lewis at MMI and ask him to advise USAFA of the situation. Also, drop a note to your USAFA admissions counselor letting him/her know you did not receive a nomination and are in need. This will get your name high on the list of those considered for a vice presidential nomination.

thank you so much for the positive words! that is great to hear! I will keep in contact with all of my points of contact, including Gen. Kelly, my admissions officers, and Col. Lewis.

Thank you as well for your good story! I dont know why our MOCs would not give a nomination to sponsored candidates for USAFA. But, I will keep waiting to see how everything plans out.

A little update on my situation:

I called my USAFA counselor today and he told me that I have received the VP nomination for USAFA. This is good news!:shake:

Now, we just have to wait and see if I am chosen off of that nomination...
