I'm currently registered and ready to go for SNWC in College Station in a few weeks, and I can't begin to describe just how excited I am to go. The last few months I've shifted my focus from USNA to getting a M.O. NROTC Scholarship to A&M. I selected H-1, a N/M outfit with a reputation as one of the "harder" Corps units to go through SNWC with. My question to anyone on the board who has been through this program before is what can I expect from SNWC? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Gig 'Em.

Get ready for a good time. Come prepared with any questions you want to ask, and look at the outfit to see if you fit in with them. You will be spending 4 years with them, after all  also, make sure you show up early enough to go on the walking tour. You get a cool look at a lot of school history and corps traditions. Gig 'Em!

If you're considering H-1, you better be in tip top shape. They are the outfit with the hardest PT for sure. If you show up in August not in perfect shape, you will regret it. Make sure to keep an open mind about your outfit choice. There are many other Navy/Marine outfits that produce outstanding USMC officers. Each one has a different culture, so make sure to choose the one that fits you best since you will be with them for the next 4 years.

Also, feel free to PM me if you have any questions about a&m or the corps.

That's part of the reason I picked H-1 was their PT reputation, I'm keeping an open mind about my outfit, but they definitley are attractive to me. As far as SNWC activities, what do those entail?

Here is a link from aggiecorps.org that lists the activities you participate in during your two days:

When my son participated four years ago before he started at A&M, he did two different Spend the Nights so he could try out two different outfits. The first one was a bad fit, the second one a perfect fit and that was the one he ended up joining. Also, keep in mind the leadership changes each year, so don't count on the one you are staying with to be exactly like it is when you experience it.

You will be very busy those two days. You will spend as much time in meetings as you will with a cadet on the quad. Also, if you are applying for a ROTC scholarship, they may want you to take your PT test and have your officer interview for your application while you are there. That is what my son did.

Thanks ma'am. About your son taking his PFT and doing his Interviews, was he a junior or senior at that time? I'm currently a Junior and just starting the NROTC process, but if I could get those done there, it would be great.

He did his first Spend the Night the end of his junior year of high school. Then he went through the application process over the summer for the ROTC scholarship and completed it at the first available Spend the Night in September of his senior year. That is when he did his officer interview with the Army PMS and took the PT test. We took no chances in showing A&M was his top choice school. He was the first ROTC interview that year at A&M and received his scholarship on the first board.

Of course, the scholarship process has been much more competitive with the military cutbacks the last couple of years. His class had a total of 70 scholarship recipients at A&M. This year, I believe it was only 25.

My son did the Spend the Night early in his senior year and did his Army ROTC interview at that time but did not do the PFT there. They ran an obstacle cours that was "for fun" but they were obviously being evaluated. Attended multiple meetings to get briefed on requirements, expectations, etc. The event he attended was JCAP for ROTC students so it may be a bit different than the standard Spend the Night. It was definitely a good experience.

There are 38 or 39 Army MS I's on Contract for 3 or 4 year in Aggieland. But still there is a huge drop off from the last few years.

Not really, my outfit's Spend the Nighters usually will talk to the Freshman during Thursday CQ for an honest look at fish life. Most of them don't ask enough questions about what to expect as far as we're concerned.

BTW H-1 is hard. Expect to being running 6+ miles for PT within a month of FOW.

Well, I'll be sure to ask plenty of questions then. I like H-1 for that reputation, I think I'm up to the challenge, and I'll be busting my *** to get ready for it. Hope I measure up to the standard. What outfit are you with?

C-1. I'm an Agribusiness Major and an Army Contract so it was either B2 or C1 to choose from. I picked Cobra C and I wouldn't go back and change it.

Does your Major affect you're unit assignment?

You're free to pick any outfit in the Corps. Though if you're Army contract they might not be thrilled for you to join a Squadron.

As you know all outfits have their own reputations and specialties. H-1 is known for being intense, E2 for Rev, B2 and D2 are chalk full of contracts. C-1 is Cadets in the College of Ag and Life Sciences, our sister outfit A-2 is the College of Architecture.

On a similar thread, get an early NSC. One of my friends ended up in A-1 because he had only looked at and spent the night with B-2. They were full of fish by the time he showed up for registration so he picked A-1 since it was the first outfit on the list.

Gotcha, that makes sense. Forgive my ignorance, but NSC?

Sorry, NSC is your New Student Conference. It's a three day welcome to Aggieland the summer between FOW and your high school graduation. It's when you will register for classes(you get academic advisers to walk you through the whole process), get measured for your Uniforms, officially designate your outfit, and can sign up for meal plan and PO box. Unlike fish camp NSC's are mandatory and they'll have a dozen to choose from, pretty much 2 a week from June 1st through August 7th.

Thanks for all the info. :thumb:

This is a little random, and for the wrong branch, but does anyone know the reputations sq-8 and sq-12 have? I'm looking at engineering af outfits.
