If you are not a scholarship cadet can you contract in as a freshman? Basically I want to be the same as all the other cadets but a scholarship is not necessary. If not can you contract in as a sophomore? What year(s) can you go to specialty schools (Airborne, Mountain Warfare, Etc.) can you do these sometime if you don't have a scholarship?

I think I already answered this on your other post.

No, you can't contract your freshman year unless you are on Scholarship. Now, there is a chance that after your first semester, if you are at the top of the freshman class and money is available, the battalion may offer you a scholarship for the remaining 3 1/2 years. This would be the only other way you could contract your freshman year.

Again, No, unless what happens in the first paragraph I just wrote you can not contract you sophomore year. Now if you are a SMP cadet you can contract your sophomore year. Before you ask any questions about SMP search this forum for SMP, and google SMP and do some research first.

Like I posted before, for the most part you can not go to the summer training unless you are contracted. There is a chance after or before LDAC that you may be able to get an Airborne or other summer training slot, this happens the summer after your junior year. Again, please search for LDAC and read up on it before you ask any questions, theres to much information to make a simple answer on this forum, do some research first.

jcleppe's comments are spot on. I would add that the summer training is not critical, or even necessary to becoming an officer. You will have opportunities for the same training after you commission and even if you contract your rising junior year you'll still get a summer training period.

Your desire to contract is good and even admirable but don't let lack of a slated contract due to lack of scholarship hold you back.

BTW, in school scholarships work differently for different branches, as does the summer training opportunities. Which xROTC are you considering? Which year of school are you in? Answers to these questions may allow us to provide you with more useful guidance.

Focus on your grades, PT and activities with your ROTC group. Don't worry about anything else.
