Hey there,

I hope no one minds me intruding here, but I am a soon to be applicant for the New Zealand Defence Force which will hopefully involve them sending me to ADFA the Australian Defence Academy.

I was just wondering what the most efficient method is to increasing your physical standard scores. I have 6 months until I will be officially tested and I need to make the most of that time.

At the moment I can only do a couple of push-ups so that is the arena that I am most worried about.

Crunches/Sit-ups I am not as worried about but any efficient workouts for increasing my numbers for those would be good.

Running is a interesting one for me also. I am a rower so I have good cardiovascular fitness but it is different to that of a runners fitness. The longest really ever run is about 4 miles but that wouldn't be at an amazingly fast pace. So any ideas on how to get my body used to running would be great.

Hope someone can offer some help
thanks

p90x :p But for real, if you want a good workout program, look up Stew Smith. He is an ex-seal and from what I've heard, his programs are great. He has both free workouts and ones you purchase.

Keeping it going all the time

formal workouts are the best choice, if you have the ime and discipline to fit them into your daily routine. Also suggest a pullup bar - [often a springloaded bar or one in brackets across the door of your bedroom, so that you get used to doing pullups and chinups constantly during your day -- on the way to brush teeth, do homework, check FB, whatever. Make sure it's there and it's easy.

Go to the gym and run. That is all there is to it. Take me for example, in 6 months I went from 6'1 157 lbs to around 6'2 180 lbs through working out and eating right. I went from barely 8 chin ups to 18 chin ups, for example. It is all about the hard work you put in and if you don't put in your hardest effort then you won't see results.

Also, kudos on the Project Reality links. Shame that PR won't go to Battlefield 3 because of lack of mod tools by DICE but that discussion is for another forum haha.

Haha, indeed!

Seriously though, the community is extremely helpful. I followed [R-DEV]Ninja2Dan's advice and, well, I did above average on all CFA events (except the mile run... 6 seconds above average).
