Hello everyone!

I am glad I found a site like this! I would like as much feedback on my question as possible, do I have what it takes? I am currently a sophomore in high school, actively seeking acceptance into either West Point or the Naval Academy. Here we go: I currenly hold a 3.9 unweighted GPA taking advanced classes in english and math. My next two years hold challenging classes in all subjects.
When it comes to extra curricular. I am an active member in Future Community and Career Leaders of America, I am president of a political action group in my school, and an active member in the state and national club. (seeking leadership positions in both) I am a member of my county's political group. I am class president, a member of students for a better tomorrow, student council, church youth group, concert choir, show choir, 2 time tri-state honors choir, Elected Young Ambassador of the city, coach the 8th grade traveling basketball team, For a change of heart student elected peer mentor, board member of our districts Health and Wellness Comittee, and I was accepted into my state's seminar for outstanding sophomore leaders (maximum of 1 per district)

I am a three sport athlete: Football, Basketball, and Track
(Freshman MVP for track)

Additional info: I always keep a picture of my bed with me so I don't forget what it looks like.

This is just my opinion...Nobody can really tell you what your chances are since earning an appointment is a very competitive process. Nobody knows what the stats are for those others who also dream of becoming a Naval officer and will be applying to USNA. The WCS (Whole Candidate Score) is what all the S.A.'s look at, academics, leadership, community support, athletic ability and participation, and so forth. All these things hold different weights, BUT you need to seriously excel in each area, all through your HS years. Your stats look promising to me, but I'm just a forum stalker that's been on here for awhile.

Contact your HS counselor to get the name and contact information for your Blue and Gold Officer (BGO). You might want to wait for a couple of weeks because they are a little busy right now, but things seem to be slowing down a bit. If I'm wrong I'm sure one of the BGOs on here will correct me. GOOD LUCK! :thumb:

A good place to start is by reading all of the 'sticky' items at the top of the USNA section on this forum.

Sounds like your academics are on the right track, as well as extra-curriculars. I think the mix of sports, community activities, music and advanced academics are a great package to make you the most marketable to any academy or top-tier college. Throw in solid SAT/ACT scores and a few team captains and you should be VERY competitive. Good luck on achieving your goals!

Looks great.

Just one comment -- "member of", "help", "assist", "part of", "attend" don't count for anything, even if it's twenty good things. The Academies are looking for leaders who also know how to follow, but not those who follow without eventually leading.

-Founded
-Captain
-Editor in Chief
-President/Vice President
-Job where others report to you
-Direct

These are the categories that get the Leadership component of the Scholar - Athlete - Leader (the three components of the Whole Candidate Score) high.

Oh, and take the SAT/ACTs early, and often. There is no penalty for taking the SAT four or five times. In the end they are just two (or three) highest section scores in your file without any background as to when taken, or how many times taken.

Regarding this statement; can you put the SAT college code down for the USNA even if you haven't started your application yet?

acceptance letters?

Hi, I received my nomination from my Congressman in VA District 10 back in January. However i have yet to hear anything from the USNA on whether or not i have been given an appointment. I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to when i could expect to hear back from the Academy. I would hope soon, due to the fact that i also was accepted to the USCGA and need to make a decision soon.

According to the website, April 15th.

yeah i saw the deadline is April 15th. Is that when most candidates receive their acceptance letters? Just wondering because from what I've read many candidates have already been accepted.

According to the Admissions office, all candidates will be notified by April 15th whether they have been offered an appointment or not. I would say a lot of people already know one way or the other, but I have no idea what percentage.
