It is much easier to go into something as intimidating as BCT if you know some people before you get there. I wanted to create this thread to get some of the accepted students together to talk and get to know one another. Once we have some people together we could also move to facebook and create a facebook group. I really think that being surrounded by a good supportive group could mean a world of difference once we are at the academy. We are all probably going to have some moments of doubt and dispair and having a group behind you will make these easier to deal with. Please comment if you are interested in trying this out!

Not to bring any negative to your idea. I think it's a great idea for appointees on the forum to share information and such. But once you get to BCT it's another world. Chances of forum members being in the same squadron in BCT is slim. And they; your squadron; is the only support group you'll have. You won't be able to be "Surrounded by a supportive group".

Again; getting to know a little about each other here at the forum is a wonderful thing; but you're not going to be there for each other during BCT. Then again; that is part of the purpose of BCT. To take individuals from different parts of the country, with different backgrounds, and put them together so they are forced to work as a team. Best of luck to you. mike....

I wouldn't worry about BCT, it can't be that bad.

Enlisted basic training wasn't even that bad either, and our training instructors were veterans of OIF/OEF with combat experience. (Security Forces)

Just get in shape get get some thick skin. You'll be fine.

This. Honestly, BCT should not be too difficult. Get rid of the attitude and any feelings of self-entitlement. Move quickly but be thorough and actually care about the training.

Nothing is especially difficult in BCT, it is just the combined effort and willpower to do your best at everything. Very few of you have made your bed to 1/8in standards. Very few march correctly nearly everywhere they go. Very few have full day schedules for weeks on end. It is the cumulative effect that tends to grind people down.

I do understand that we probably won't be in the same squadron, I was thinking more along the lines of if anyone of us is having a particularly difficult time and are possibly thinking of quiting. Having someone there whom you have been telling all your reasons for going in the first place to remind you of those reasons might really make a difference. I dont know how realistic all this is (such as our ability to communicate with people in other squadrons) but it was just an idea. I was reading an article about an organization who uses support groups to help low income students get into and survive the first year at ivy league colleges. So it was just an idea. I do appriciate the input from all you guys who have been through BCT, its always better to have a realistic perspective!

And I do appreciate and applaud what you're trying to do. Realistic, is the key word. You don't have email, facebook, internet, etc... in BCT. You are basically with your flight and squadron (1 squadron made up of 4 flights). Roughly, 100 other basic trainees.

But trust me; every other trainee who will be there will go through the same thing you will go through. From day-1, you will start bonding and making friends. If anything seems to become overwhelming, you'll have others in the same boat to talk to about it. Simply stating that if 10 of you here create a bond for support, the chances are extremely thin that you'll ever even see each other during BCT.

Another thing to consider, is that those that will be leading BCT could be monitoring these forums for any "intel" on the new Basics. One should try to stay "under the radar" at least the first couple of weeks of BCT. The less they know about you, the less chance they have to push your buttons. It is not that difficult to ID some posters either by the way their user name is composed or the content of past postings. This is just my opinion. Do the best you can and learn to work as a team. Good luck to all of you. :thumb:

Thanks for taking the initiative! I am willing to give this a shot! :shake:
