Hi - my son will be going to the Academy this summer. This is very exciting time!

As we have received just a note from our Congressman but no other information yet, I am wondering if anyone knows the exact dates that a parent should plan on visiting the Academy?

I've gathered some info already on the Parents' weekend, and it sounds like visiting the Thursday prior through to following Tuesday morning is the way to do it.

But any other dates at the beginning of the adventure in June or other milestone ceremonies etc I should plan on? I have to reqeust time off of work by tonight so I am trying to get some firm ideas of what to ask for!

Thanks for any leads.

Inprocessing Day June 28, 2012
You can either drop your son off yourselves, or he can fly in by himself and take advantage of the Bed and Breakfast Program (info will be in the 2nd envelope you'll receive).

Acceptance Day August 7, 2012
Some parents come to this event to spend a few hours with their Cadet. There is a parade and the freshman are officially welcomed into the wing as C4Cs (after being Basic Cadets during BCT). You will only have a few hours with your cadet and then you'll have to leave. Come if you can afford it.

Parents' Weekend August 31, 2012 to September 3, 2012
The most important time to visit your C4C and get them off base for a few days.

Here is a link to the USAFA calendar for 2012-2013: http://www.usafa.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-111208-035.pdf
It shows the dates for Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring breaks.

Ask your questions! People on these forums love to help as we've been helped by others. Best wishes. :thumb:

thanks!

Thank you for the info, I"m submitting requests for the time off and hope all goes well with the basic training!

i have looked at the calendar link and there's no indication of acceptance day.
could you please confirm is it august 7 or 8?

According to webguy (the person who runs the photo/blog/forum etc service of AOG, which is the AFA Association of Graduates), Acceptance Day is August 7 this year. It is a slightly different timing than previous years, which has caused confusion, but he said on his blog that he got the schedule from the Academy liaison, so it sounds like it should be the correct date. Best bet is to call the academy itself or maybe post a question on the USAFA official Facebook page. They seem to be pretty quick about answering questions.

If you decide to come for InProcessing, you'll need to fly/drive in the day/night before (assuming you're not from Colorado I guess!) as the basic cadets will have to report the morning of the 28th (beginning around 7 a.m. I believe, although there is a window of a few hours to report.) Some parents who come also stay through the following day (29th) to watch the formal oath ceremony in the morning (you won't be able to talk to your son though, just watch from the Chapel wall) .

This is the information posted in the instructions to appointees:
You should arrive at Doolittle Hall 15 minutes prior to
your assigned reporting time. Reporting times will be posted
at http://www.usafa.edu/df/dfr/?catname=dfr1 after 13 June
2012. It is important that you make arrangements to arrive the
day prior to inprocessing to mitigate any delays and be
available to report on 28 June at your assigned time.

This year there will be specific reporting times. I actually think this is a pretty good idea so that there is maybe not so much waiting around at Doolittle Hall.
