Airplane Ticket to Annapolis?

Baltimore is the Closest

also which site is it best to buy from?

Baltimore/Washington DC Int'l, BWI, is the closest major airport to Annapolis. If you don't mind a further drive there is Reagan National, DCA, in DC and a little further away from that is Dulles Airport, IAD, in Northern VA. The bigger airlines serving BWI are Southwest and USAir. DCA is served by most major airlines and Unites is the largest serving IAD. I'd check each carrier's website for prices. I think travel will be reimbursed when the plebe files a travel claim at USNA.
Cheers...

It will be probably be easiest if you fly to BWI, but just a note that Virgin has killer fares from SFO and LAX to IAD. Like almost half the cost of going to BWI when we've checked before. They don't fly to BWI but I think they are looking at non-stop west coast flights to DCA for later this summer along with some other airlines, now that some of the restrictions have been lifted. Might help drive the prices down with more options.

We've been looking at Jet Blue from SFO to BWI (through Boston or Ft. Lauderdale) and are waiting for prices to drop.

We generally book directly online with an airline after searching elsewhere. I got tired of travelocity and priceline bookings vanishing half way through the process. I've been told the best time to book is mid-week at odd hours, roughly 4-6 weeks in advance, but I'm not sure how good that advice is.

If this is for a soon-to-be plebe, I recommend you wait until he/she receives a Permit to Report packet. There may be specific instructions regarding what the USN will and will not reimburse.

If it's for parents, then it depends on your desires and finances. Although IAD and DCA may be cheaper, traffic between those airports and Annapolis can be brutal, depending on the time of day and day of the week.

Brutal could be an understatement. BWI is by far the best airport for coming to Annapolis from a traffic POV. Not at USNA but we do live near Annapolis and its a very easy trip from BWI to Annapolis.

As USNA1985 states, wait for instructions. However, as a general rule, your plebe will only be reimbursed for the airfare that the government would have paid (i.e. government rate) from your Home of Record (HOR) to Annapolis, if you choose to buy your own ticket. So if you paid a $600 ticket on your own, for which it would have cost the government $300, then you are paying $300 out-of-pocket.

Thanks

Thanks for the clarification on travel reimbursements. I'm hoping the PTR will have answers to many other questions we have. Is mid-April still a good time frame for when these will be sent out?
Cheers...

Thank You everyone. My parents are planning to land in Newark, NJ and driving to NY. Stay in NY for two days then travel to MD. Has anyone tried this? Im from CA

Howacupcake... I just did this very thing with my son over spring break. Tell your parents to be sure to get the GPS on the rent car AND the thing they put in your car so you can go through the tolls and it charges to your credit card without having to go through the cash toll line. Pretty much ALL the roads are tolls, so it's definitely worth it...and we would have been hopelessly lost without the GPS. It was a fun trip, your parents will do fine!

Enterprise and it was significantly cheaper than the others, plus they had great customer service. If you wait until a few days before your trip and go on Priceline, you will get a MUCH better deal...

Oh, and they don't get the option for the toll tag until they check-in at the rent car desk... MAKE SURE they know to get it! Saves you SO much time and hassle and doesn't cost anymore than if you paid cash at the tolls.
