Chances of VMI acceptance?

Hello,

I sent in my application to VMI for the regular decision earlier this year in January. I received a letter in February that my counselor's letter, SAT scores and transcript did not reach the post. They were re-sent. I recieved a letter earlier this month stating the SAT scores were still missing. SAT scores were updated on Postview as received today. Will this seriously affect my chances of acceptance to VMI?

GPA: 3.1
SAT: 1980
Eagle Scout, Volunteer Counselor, Jr. Lifeguard Captain, 4 years Swim Team

Look at the most recent class profile for VMI and see how your grades and activities compare....I just got in for rat class of 2016 and I've got a 3.9 GPA, 25 ACT, and 1720 total SAT, Three year varsity track, over two hundred community service hours at the local Veterans Affairs Hospital and my church. Good luck, God willing we become brother rats!

Thanks for the encouragement! I have compared my academic stats and SAT scores to those reported on College Board. Test scores stack well but my GPA's not too hot. Nothing yet, but I will continue to hope for the best :cool:
 
Just pitching in my two cents here..I feel that you stand a pretty good chance of acceptance. While your GPA may be a bit lacking, your SAT score seems to be very good and may make up for it (I'm not too familiar with SAT scores, as I didn't have to take it). I was a bit the same way. I don't remember what my high school GPA was, but mine definitely wasn't the hottest, but I scored a 31 on my ACT, and I feel like it indicated that I can be smart and studious...when I want to... :redface:

Also, here's something else to consider. When I was getting my interview for an Army scholarship, I realized that it meant more to be well-rounded than to be completely stacked in one area. And looking at your statistics, I'd say you seem pretty well-rounded: Eagle Scout, Lifeguard Captain, and Volunteer Counselor fall under leadership. Your SAT score and GPA fall reasonably well under academics, and 4 years on the swim team fall under athletics. While the whole well-rounded idea was mainly for a scholarship, I really don't see why it wouldn't apply to VMI!
