Hello Everyone,

I am a senior in high school this year and was just awarded an Army ROTC Scholarship to the University of North Texas(in-state). I am super excited, but my top school choice was Oklahoma State. I am already signed up for orientation at Oklahoma State(out-of-state) and have my room assignment, and I still want to attend school there. I qualified for a scholarship from the school itself, which decreases the cost significantly. Is there any way that I could get my scholarship to transfer? Thank you in advance for your help!

Did you receive the scholarship from this board or one of the previous boards.

I received the scholarship from the latest board in March.

How did you find out it was a 4 year scholarship.

Is the University of North Texas an In State school for you, is OSU an Out of State school. This will effect you ability to get a transfer, as well as the cost difference between the two schools.

Very sorry, it was on the scholarship status website. I wrongly assumed that it was a 4-Year scholarship. Yes, North Texas is in-state for me. Do you think that I would have to forfeit the scholarship in order to attend Oklahoma State?

It is possible.

First wait to see if you received a 3 year or 4 year scholarship. Then contact the ROO at both schools. Find out from the ROO at OSU if they have room for you. You apply through Cadet Command for a transfer, if they are willing to help the ROO at OSU should help you navigate the process.

Good Luck

Great, that is what I'll do! Thank you for your help!

(JCleppe's excellent post appeared while I was composing mine, so forgive any redundancy) As you can see from these threads, there is a lot of shifting among scholarship awardees. It may be that people who have been offered scholarships at OSU are trying to switch to other schools. It could also turn out that some awardees will reject the scholarship offer because they will attend a service academy.

You should contact the ROO (Recruiting Operations Officer) and describe your situation. You should absolutely emphasize that OSU was your first choice school. Some people advocate e-mail, but I would suggest a telephone call as well. If you can't get to the ROO, try the PMS. Be pro-active.

One advantage is that both Texas and Oklahoma are in the 5th Brigade. North Texas appears to have lower tuition costs for in-state than out-of-state costs for OSU. However, some schools offer in-state rates for out-of-state ROTC cadets. Also, the cost difference is not huge, as it would be if your choice was a fancy private school.

Thank you, I really appreciate the help! This is definitely a learning experience for me, so I need all the help I can get! I will definitely try to get ahold of the ROO tomorrow and let him know. Thanks again for your help!
