Hello, I'm new to the forums but have a question, I currently attend a small private school with limited clubs and courses, i'm a freshman. But recently I have been considering going to a local public school with great academics, jrotc, and more courses and clubs. I'm undecided because if I stay at my current private school, I probably have a better chance of becoming a leader in the few clubs we have but at the public school I could be in JROTC, and many sports and clubs. I'm just wondering what you guys would be better as to my future in getting a scholarship. thanks.

Quality of the EC experience means much more than quantity. Varsity starter at small school means more than JV at large school. Accomplishment is everything. Participation is nothing.

You may wish to look into the Civil Air Patrol (AF Auxillary). The Cadet program is very much like JrROTC, but unlike JrROTC, it is not part of the school day, thus one need not burn 3 credits on a level 3 (not college prep) class, yet can gain the experience of a military organization.

CAP>JROTC :shake: just my two cents.

CAP is pretty awesome, throwing that out there...

My advice, though-do NOT make a decision about what school to attend based on the extra-curricular activities. Especially as a freshman, you have plenty of time to plan out high school and take challenging classes. I would take the hardest academic load feasible and excel in a few extra activities.

It couldn't hurt being in CAP, for a navy scholarship would it? because its an air force program and what not...

Not at all. I'm heading to NAPS in a few months, and I'm a Mitchell cadet in CAP. It looks good regardless of the branch affiliation.

I just talked to a local CAP squadron and now i'm interested. I'm going to check it out monday. how long does it take to get to be a Mitchell cadet?

a little more than 2 years if you're testing every month

On that note, look at a Sea Cadet program as well, that is if you're also interested in the Navy
