What's the time frame for the 2nd BFE?

DS still hasn't gotten his 2nd BFE. He accepted his appointment on April 2.

Just curious...

its a new kinda stalking.:rolleyes:

Last year it took about 2 weeks. If you're concerned have DS call Admissions and ask. Congrats again! :thumb:
 
Thanks Dad. I'm sure he'll call if he's concerned.

He's Mr. Independent and pretty much did this whole application process by himself with us on the sidelines cheering him on. (I was a joint mailbox stalker with him though.) I try not to meddle and bug him with MY worry so I thought I'd bug you all instead while he's at school and can't stop me. :biggrin:

DS accepted 4/1 and haven't got the 2nd BFE but DS did get email asking for the measurements (for uniforms) to be sent and we also did the vaccine sheet which they wanted right away also (check the portal, 'instructions to appointees' which has lots of info)
 
2nd BFE

My DS received his about 4 weeks after the first one. The second BFE contains more forms to fill out regarding Cadet Life Insurance, Emergency Data for Cadet, AOG Membership and of course the SF86 form which is about 120 pages. :eek: This is for Security Clearance and you can plan on spending several hours completing it. My only word of caution is to read through everything and follow the directions. Some forms need to be mailed back and some will need to be printed out and carried with your DS to inprocessing. Oh, and make copies of everything for your own records. I started a folder for the papers my DS needs to carry with him for inprocessing. I'll admit, I've woken up a few times during the night in a panic because I felt like we missed something or filled something out incorrectly. My best advice it just to keep things organized. Just an FYI! Since this is my second time through this process (cadet C/O 2014 also), there used to be an eye glass prescription form. This is no longer the case. DS just called and they told him to bring a written prescription with him. Ditto Brdee09 comment on duplication of all forms(even the SF86 they will want this later in their career when they have to re-accomplish this):thumb: Would also keep a copy of the immunizations form on their person that whole first day. Just don't need to get any of those shots twice on an already hectic day:thumb:
 
An easy way to carry copies of papers, identification, immunization form, etc. on Inprocessing Day is in a large zip lock bag. Prevents nervous fingers from dropping file folder in parking lot or on floor. They will be given a plastic bag to carry some of this stuff in once they clear the first round of tables but this works to keep everything together at first -- as nerves are on edge in anticipation of the "bus ride" to the cadet area.

In the Instructions to Appointee handbook, it says that "you will receive a spectacle and contact lens prescription form in the mail which must be returned at least three weeks before BCT." Just to clarify, are you saying that we will receive no form and need not to send our prescription ahead of time to the Academy?

DS called this morning and was told by his counselor that they were doing things differently this year. He was told to bring his prescription along with all other documentation to I-day. I will say, however, that if one were to show up in the mail in enough time to turn it around and get it to USAFA three weeks prior to BCT and I-day that I would make every effort to get it there. Also, so you are aware that not everything in the "Instructions to Appointee Handbook" is current, the cover and letter in the front is updated yearly but that is the only thing (I think) that has changed since the C/O 2014 entered. Just sounds to me like they will get their glasses made and issued after they arrive. They won't really "need" them until 2nd BCT when they go to Jacks Valley. Don't forget the eye glass strap though, doesn't mean they won't be doing push-up in their civilian glasses:eek:
 
Update about 2nd BFE timing

DS accepted appointment on April 2nd, and 2nd BFE came today, April 13th.
 
Language Test and SGLI

The online language test for Spanish isn't working. I called the Language Dept, and they said they're working on it. The woman in charge of the testing said that DS should try periodically, because it would be better to take the test at home in a stress free environment. But if the link isn't working, it will be OK if appointees take the Spanish or German tests after I Day.

The other issue I found was with the SGLI form. It's an online form that you are required to fill out online and then print, but it kept printing blank. Then it would print with the height/weight filled in, and DS couldn't delete the numbers. (His weight was 2323, height 123, according to the pre-filled in numbers! Yikes! Maybe that's martian units!) Also it says in the letter, do not sign the form and bring it with you. Next paragraph says, mail the form in enclosed envelope by 11 June. What???? I also called to ask about this form while DS was in school.

So . . . If you have a problem with this form, go to
http://www.insurance.va.gov/sglisite/forms/forms.htm#SGLI
to get the form instead of the link provided in the letter. Click on SGLV 8286. It's the same form, but without problems. Also, regarding the mail in or hand carry, DO BOTH. In both cases, DS/DD should not sign.

Hope this helps you/your DD/DS if you guys had the same questions.
