Five U.S. military members have been ordered confined to quarters over possible involvement in inappropriate conduct at the same hotel here as the 11 Secret Service agents sent home in an unfolding scandal involving local prostitutes.
Making the announcement Saturday, United States Southern Command commander Gen. Douglas Fraser said he is “disappointed by the entire incident and that this behavior is not in keeping with the professional standards expected of members of the United States military.”

The president is in Colombia for the weekend to attend the Summit of the Americas.
The White House on Saturday maintained its stance of refusing to comment on the scandal, even as word came that military personnel were also involved.
White House press secretary Jay Carney, in an on-camera briefing in Cartagena Saturday afternoon said regarding the military personnel that “It is our understanding this is part of the same incident” as the Secret Service.

Why exactly are you on this forum? All you've done this far is post negative stories about the military.

Same thought here... I'm thinking of a 5 letter word starting with a T and ending with a couple of L's.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) on Sunday predicted that the Secret Service scandal that rocked President Barack Obama’s trip to Colombia probably wasn’t the first of its kind.

“The investigation will not be about the 11 to 20 or more involved, it will be about how has this happened, and how often has this happened before,” Issa said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “Things like this don’t happen once.”

Issa, who chairs the House Oversight and Government Committee, also noted that he believes the number of agents involved in the controversy may be higher than what is currently being reported, while dismissing the claim that Obama was never in danger during his trip abroad.

“In this particular case, the president may not have been in danger. But that begs the question -- what happens if somebody six months ago six years ago became the victim of their own misconduct and is now being blackmailed?” he said. “The question is, is the whole organization in need of some soul searching, some changes before the president the vice president, members of the Cabinet are in danger?”

Eleven Secret Service personnel who were in Colombia for Obama’s trip there were relieved of their duties after allegations of misconduct. Soon after, five military members were also reported as having been a part of the scandal involving local prostitutes.

Republican? What has politics have to do with it? Stupid decisions are made regardless of politics. I am now thinking also of the 5 letter word mentioned above and then ending with the words "with too much time on their hands."

Zanders appears to be a troll with an agenda.

Has yet to make a helpful post about the academies, or contribute to the goals of this forum whatsoever.

When members of the Secret Service (probably a lot of ex-military) and military do these types of things they open themselves up to blackmail and extortion and put the President at risk.

But I guess for some who don't really care about the safety of this President, that's no big deal.

All right folks-
A few points to ponder :
1) Zanders - you are correct that conduct such as has been alleged by these individuals is a security risk, which is exactly why this is being dealt with by the Secret Service and apparently the DoD.
2) There is not much more to be said about the incident at this point beyond recycling speculation.
3) Posts in the off topic forums are a sideline to the purpose of this forum - which is to provide a venue for asking questions and providing experienced and factual advice and guidance to candidates for the Service Academies and varied Military commissioning programs. As long as the posts on here are generally respectful and complementary to the overall mission - no problem. This isn't the place to indulge in your political pet peeves.
4) A good way to establish your credibility in this forum is to be a participant in the main forums - asking questions or providing guidance about admission to, or life at, one of the Service Academies, Military Colleges or ROTC programs, because then it is clear that you are actually interested in what we exist for rather than merely making political points of some stripe r another.
5) In short- this thread needs to end here.

The "oldest profession and (some say) the "second oldest profession" were just conducting a seminar on the historical signifiicance of their professions.
