Is there anyone who has Max 1 or 2 who would be willing to switch with me for 4?

Good luck getting a nice spring Max....otherwise...see you at Max 4

I was thinking the same thing JeRDLe. Who on earth would want to be at Maxwell in July over May?

Uhhh someone who has a cousin getting married in May or something like that? You never know! Or maybe someone who hates the chill air of May?

I don't disagree kinnem, I am sure there is someone out there that will swap, but most of these cadets knew that this was happening this summer and so did their families. They planned for the what if... at least we did. Basically, our attitude was welcome to the AF DS...they say go, you go! Be thankful for the opportunity. I am not trying to be mean, rude or inconsiderate to Eagle, it is just living that life as a spouse for 20+ yrs, and DS living as a dependent we jumped to their tune, and that was just how life was. It is something I personally believe all cadets should become accustomed to regarding their AD future. Your personal life is secondary, the needs of the AF is primary. They need you to go Max 1.

I was just with JeRDLe regarding why anyone would want to take a Max 4. Heck, even a Max 6 could be better because the weather may start to be cooling down compared to July!

Just my lived in the South attitude, by mid-August it was like late June, a lot better than anyday in July. Still hot as you know what, but not as hot as July.

OBTW I am sure you discussed this with your det., but if you haven't do not do another thing until you do. Traditionally, like Agagles's DD, if it is an issue such as, must take summer classes due to scheduling issues, or an important family issue they will work it for you with HQ. Cousin's wedding doesn't fall under the important issues parameters. Taking classes to lighten the load in the fall, when they can take them in the upcoming yr without additional academic time or burden, also typically won't fall within their parameters.

He asked a one line question. He didn't say he couldn't go.

Cravius,

Aren't you a HS student going AROTC? In your 22 posts none are AFROTC.

Flame me!

Do you understand the FT/EA AFROTC system?

If you don't, than IMPO, you don't understand the stress of attending FT at Maxwell for AFROTC regarding commissioning. It would be akin to AROTC and LDAC for me.

The C200 yr is make or break in AFROTC.

Packer,

I never stated he couldn't do it. Read my posts.

:guns4: Kill me.

My "LECTURE" was to tell the OP, welcome to the AD life.

Should we pretend that their personal desires matter more than the military's needs?

JMPO, but I can't support a "swap" unless it is tied to the military. Cousin's wedding, sorry that is BS! Want to reduce your class load next fall/spring by taking summer courses that is BS!

Immediate family members having surgery, I am with you.

The idea that in the AF you have 100% decision in your life is total BS!

Go to Maxwell, come Aug/Sept after graduation and contracting, you belong to them (look at Gojira's thread).

JMPO, if Eagle expects the AF as an AD member to "swap" life as an O1 will be painful. Leaving before FT allows him to walk with no $$$ or time commitment.

Slam me personally, that is fine. My "LECTURES" at least made posters/lurkers, cadets, candidates and applicants to think twice before they opt this route.

Isn't that our goal here? Tell everyone the reality?

Like I said flame me, but when you do tell me I was wrong in my position for AFROTC EA/FT selected cadets without knowing how it impacts commitment to the AD AF is wrong too. We need to remove emotions, understand that the AF is a business. We also need to acknowledge AFROTC is not AROTC or NROTC! AROTC is not AFROTC. Army life is not AF life!

That is my position. Would a cadet tell their boss, SORRY, but I can't go on that business trip because my cousin is getting married or I wanted to take a summer class for my Masters?

NO! They would see it as a paycheck or job security.

I must be weird! However, before you say I am, please pull out that AFROTC contract and read the fine print!

Oh that's right cravius, I am entertaining, not educational!

Pima--

Our DD is considering an AF career. We definitely appreciate your educational posts which give us great information and a realistic view of AF life. We have learned more from your posts than any other single source. Thank you for taking the time to help others with your posts!

Pima, this is ridiculous.

Please, calm down. These long emotional posts just draw attention away from the OP, so you can toot your own horn. You are right, Army life is different from air force life, but if you are entitled to your opinion, so am I.

cravius,

Please notice the title of this thread.

AFROTC Max swap

KEY word...AFROTC, not AROTC.

Please, let's keep it AFROTC, remove your anger or issue with me,

We are here for the AFROTC cadets. that is it!

It is my personal opinion that in this current environment within the AF, swapping will be an issue.

Pima,

With all due respect, the point you made was not that the swap would be difficult, but that the OP should "get used to AF life" and that any reason for swapping was "BS". IMHO you need to lighten up. This is an informative board, not your personal soapbox. Being in AROTC does not preclude me from knowing about AFROTC.

So, no, you can't swap

Couldn't resist but it was a simple question

cravius,

I respect your opinion. You feel I am on a soapbox, that is your right and I respect it. Let's leave it at that.

Your right, your opinion. I respect that. I hope you respect that I see you as a HS student with no adult experience in the ADAF, let alone ROTC at college, or the AFROTC world.

Back on topic.

globalview,

You can swap, but the reality is as JeRDLe stated who wants to go to Maxwell in mid-July over May on their own volition?

It is rare that on a site like this they will find a swap. They also will need to go through AFROTC HQ for approval. They can't just say candidate Smith will take my place, and I will take his. Smith's det will have to talk to Eagle's det. The CCs will submit paperwork and it will go up to HQ and it will come back down to each det regarding the approval process.

We are at 30 days away from Max 1. The time crunch is a factor right now.

Was it harsh to say, welcome to the AF, your life is secondary? IMPO, NO, because each branch lives by the motto: Service before Self.

As an AFROTC cadet going to FT, graduating (almost guaranteed), you will be locked for at least 4 yrs AD, no reserves, no guard! They can send you to S Korea, Eilson AK, or Minot, ND, and all you can do is salute sharply to your commander!

Not going to FT you can still opt out. Going and graduating is a whole new game for AFROTC

I would suggest everyone read gojira's thread. http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?t=23912&page=7

Unless you are an AF vet, you have just as much knowledge as me on the "needs of the air force" and AD life.

You walked into that one buddy! Good luck! Pima's resume to follow. Believe me, she knows the Air Force and deserves a little more respect. We all might go off in tangents from time to time, but she is fundamentally correct. And this after a truce was declared. Oh well.

She has no idea what my experrience with the air force is. The OP asked a question about whether something was possible. Pima responded with a lecture on how cadets need to "get used to it" and how their reason s for switching are "bull****". Doesnt sound like a calm, reasonable answer to me.
