Is this a Hoax like the Who's Who yearbook deal for High school?

My name is Zach and i've just recieved a letter explaining to me that i have been nominated for the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security. Is this going to help me out in any way for college will it look good on resumes?, will it help me get into good colleges?, or is this like the Who's who yearbook deal? (by the way im a sophomore so i got a little bit till college) Many questions i need help haha.

You're better off raising this question on a broader forum like College Confidential. It may have been addressed there already.

If you got a letter - a "special invitation" - to it and it costs a lot of money, not worth your time.

Yeah I've gotten an invitation to it and some other leadership conference for the last 3 or 4 years. The first time I got it I was interested until I saw the price. Way too much money to be paying for "leadership training". I got into every college I applied to just fine and am still bombarded with emails from colleges offering application extensions for me. As long as your grades are solid, can write at least a decent if not stellar essay, you participate in EC, and can honestly consider yourself a good leader already, you probably won't get anything out of it other than a few nights away from the folks and honestly don't need it to get into a great college. If you're parents are willing to send you and you can easily afford it, go ahead if you want to, it's not a hoax. Just know that it has mixed reviews, some have said that it is just an overpriced, poorly organized field trip.

This topic is discussed all over the net, if you search that title you will find several websites that talk about this. Paying to attend a seminar that you get invited to in a mass mailing is NOT an example of leadership. While, I wouldn't call it a hoax, you do pay money and actually attend something.......HOWEVER.......Most say it is primarily an overpriced & often poorly run field trip. It will add nothing to your resume at the USNA or other service academy. Most who get these invites toss them in the trash like other junk mail.

I also got this same invitation a year or year and a half ago. Not worth it. If you want to demonstrate leadership to academies/ROTC, become captain of your sports team, get an ASB position within school, join CAP or JROTC, or something else along these lines.

It's legitimate. It's also a ripoff.

It won't have as much weight (if at all) as something like Boy's State. As far as I can tell, anyone with a pulse is "invited."

As posted above, it's a ridiculously expensive trip to Washington D.C.

Just buy your own ticket and tour the place yourself if you want to go. You'll save a couple thousand dollars.

i've gotten an invitation to this thing every year since eighth grade (which was pretty suspicious). Never went. Appointed all the same.

I did not see the $1600 charge to go to this before i posted it. Thanks guys you really helped
