Ok, I think I'm cracking, the wait is killing me! It has been a long 2 years (DS is a 2nd timer). The forums have gotten so quiet that I have nothing to distract me anymore. While DS has finals to occupy his mind, I spend far too much time on here analyzing every little scrap of info with my "magical thinking". To top it off I think my box of wine is running out

Thank you for letting me let off some steam cause this pressure cooker has just about had it lol!

Unfortunately, you may have to wait until after May 1 before anything happens. I just have the impression they want to make sure they have an accurate count before they go to the waitlist. I believe there were several hundred offers sent out, earlier on, with 1 May deadlines for acceptance, so they are most likely waiting until after 1 May to proceed. Hang in there. You might need some more wine.

Lol, I'm sure you are right...on both counts!

It just feels like we've been left behind and now we're waiting to see if they are going to come back for us. There doesn't seem to be that many waitlisters on the forum to hold our own little party until we hear...so it's a bit lonely. Oh well, stiff upper lip and all that, it's only another 2 weeks or so!

I can only imagine how hard it is for you, especially the 2nd time around, but consider that the glass really is half full. Being waitlisted means you have a very strong chance of receiving an appointment.

I thought that April 15th was the deadline for the couple hundred appointments that went out. This is the first I've heard about May 1st being a thing. And if we are to know by May 15th one way or another I would expect that they would want more time than from May 1st to make those decisions. Therefore, it is my belief that they are counting and double checking now, and that the beginnings of the waitlist appointments will start going out at the end of this month.

The most recent wave of appointments that went out the end of March had 15 April deadlines, however, I believe several hundred others had gone out previously, with 1 May deadlines. These are the ones I was referring to. Regardless, you are most likely correct in guessing that some appointments will begin to come out at the end of the month. They will not have a final count on appointment offers previously sent, until 1 May, however.

MD spirit, I feel your pain. My DS is also on the waitlist, after getting a QNV TWE last year. Insider said some applicants MIGHT find out at the end of this week. Here's hoping the second timers are at the top of the list! Or I will also be heading out to the liquor store. Good luck!

Thank You Everyone!

Thanks everyone for the responses...it just makes the wait less painful when shared with others

It's hard to know how many offers have already gone out/been declined at this point. Maybe the declines for the April 15th offers have brought the class down to the magic 1050 and the declines for the May 1st offers will be what opens doors for us. If that's the case then the soonest we will hear would probably be May 6th (based on the latest notices being updated on the portals on Friday). Of course this is what I meant earlier about my magical thinking...

Truly I am grateful that DS is on the wait list at all, and hope our fellow forum wait listers get to hear some good news soon.

magical thinking

I think about 800 offers have gone out so far. Insider said they are running about 81% acceptance rate. There is no way to know how many are still outstanding or what the acceptance rate will be. My guess is there will be 100-150 offers in play after the dust settles.

the other 250 slots

I mentioned that I thought 800 offers had been made. 1050-800=250. So what about the remaining 250? you ask.
Keep in mind there are a few qualified LEAD candidates (guessing around 15). There are about 170 current USAFAPS Cadet Candidates (10 received early appointments). And there are 50 to 100 qualified Falcon scholars (currently at places like NWP and NMMI). These total more than the 250 slots available. So you see the dilemma that Admissions has? I am guessing they have about 100 on the waitlist. If they wind up with 150 available slots after the dust settles and they know how many acceptances they have, then they should be able to fit everyone in. Otherwise, they have some extremely difficult decisions to make.

There are so many variables! I can't imagine that any of the 265 prepsters/Falcons/LEAD would not be offered an appointment unless their grades have slipped significantly. At the end of the day, if the 81-85% acceptance rate holds then we still have a good chance. :thumb:

Any word on Wait List Candidates

My DS, who is on the wait list, got a letter yesterday from the high school ROTC recruiting office offering him an ROTC scholarship because he is one of the USAFA highly qualified non select candidates. This seems kind of dumb because #1 he is not in high school, and #2 he already has an ROTC scholarship because he got the same letter last year when he was also a highly qualified non select candidate for the USAFA. He and my DH are distraught because they think the letter means that he will not be selected for USAFA from the wait list. I hope that the letter is some sort of mistake, or an offer for a Plan B, and that he is still eligible for an appointment if there are any available to waitlisted candidates. Has anyone else on the wait list gotten a letter like this? or does anyone have any info on whether any decisions have been made for wait listed candidates?

This is a thread on the ROTC forum, for AROTC.

HS ROTC should be the tell tale sign.

Your DS is currently in AFROTC at college, they are his "go to" people.

If it was me I would place that in the circular filing cabinet (trash) and see it as a AFJROTC being aggressive.

I can't figure out how any HS (JROTC) can offer a scholarship to any cadet, mainly because the HSSP AFROTC system does not give scholarships to any HS AFJROTC cadet. Colleges do award IS, but HS doesn't!

Is this from the HS your DS graduated from? If it is, maybe you should contact them and get more details regarding the system.

Thanks, Pima. The letter is from the HS ROTC recruiting office, but it is definitely for college ROTC. It's the same letter my DS got last year following the arrival of his TWE from USAFA. He hadn't applied for an ROTC scholarship, but USAFA somehow gave his name to ROTC. It is for a Type 2 scholarship for applicants who major in something technical or a foreign language and a type 7 for other majors. My DS accepted the scholarship last year and he loves ROTC. He just didn't understand why he got a letter again, since he is already in the program, not in high school, and still on the waiting list. He was worried that since the letter classified him as a "USAFA non-select", that he was no longer on the waiting list.

But, my DS got in touch with his admissions counselor at USAFA today and she said that this letter in no way impacts his status on the waitlist. Whew! So, we're back to waiting and stalking.....

To other applicants who may have gotten this letter, it is a great deal and a good back up plan. The type 2 scholarship covers tuition, fees, and some books, AND provides an opportunity to become an Air Force officer. The letter has to be returned by 5/14, so you may not know your USAFA status by then, but I'm sure if you get in to the Academy, you can go back to AFROTC and decline the scholarship.

A quick count shows about 7 'wait listed' represented on the forum. Correct me if I missed a few.

I just want to know who to watch when the news starts coming in.

My AF career has taught me that success is all about skill, luck, and timing. Those on the 'wait list' are obviously skilled, the timing stinks, so all that can be said is good luck to all.

I just found out from my counselor that 60 appointments were offered to people on the wait list this past Wednesday.

when will portals update?

I am trying to remember the cycle from the March appointments. Were the MOCs given Thurs thru Mon to call their appointees and then the portals were updated on the Tuesday morning? If DS gets an appointment off the waitlist I'm thinking it will get charged to his Presidential nom and not his senatorial so I don't think he would receive a call from her...which means 5 more days of waiting

Lots of prayers going out to those who are still waiting!
