I am feeling very discouraged during my application process. I was wondering if someone could tell if I have a fair chance of being admitted.

Sports: track (2 possible years) cross country (1 year), Golf( 1 year)

School: top 10% of class, 3.6 GPA, Many AP/dual credit classes, Academic Letter Recipient

ECAs: National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, Science Club, Chess Club, Robotics team, (Future Boys State Delegate)

Leadership: Student Council, (possible class president/vice president)(possible president of NHS chapter)

Downfall: fairly low SAT scores (490 English, 530 Math), will not do so well on CFA pull-ups (around 6)

For class of 2016 or 2017? 2016, not looking good...2017 plenty of time to fix shortcomings...your SAT needs to go WAAAAAY up. Join a study class!

you may find that you will score higher on the act. my dd had about the same sats as you last year. she then took the act 4 times until she got a good score.

you have plenty of time to work out and practice the cfa. alot can change in a year.

best of luck to you.

First of all stay positive. Focus on your strength and work on your weekness's.
Take and retake the ACT then take it again. Get in shape push ups, pull ups....
You have plenty of time to get better but work with a sence of urgency.
Keep working on those leadership rolls and on GPA
Boys State is big..
And apply for SLS I'm sure it's not too late..

Good Luck

You have plenty of time to develop in all areas of your application. I would recommend getting a training and studying regiment started now, because class size for each imcoming class is getting smaller, which means it will in turn be harder to get in. Our incoming class, Class of 2016, has a total of 1150 imcoming cadets. This number is incredibly low I hear. Work hard, and become dedicated. Remember, its not all about the quantity of activities you're participating in, its being involved in leadership roles and being able to participate in a variety of activites while achieving superb grades. I would suggest getting a job also, if you do not already have one. Hope to see you next year.

Good luck! :thumb:

Unfortunately, I think it is too late for SLS for this coming summer.

"Admission is on a rolling basis, which means acceptance letters will go out even before the April 1 application deadline."

It is my understanding that SAT's & ACT scores are the final determinator. Most everyone that applies to WP are top of their class - high GPA, numerous accolades, varsity letters, community service etc. I had all of these and then some. My ENG SAT was 530 - MATH 680 after 3 attempts. I am considered an academic risk regardless of my unweighted GPA = 98.75 and top 10 in my class... Not good enough to get me in this year but I did in to the Prep School. Test, test and re-test.....Good Luck!!

Just curious about your username. Why are you posting on the USMA forum when your username is "futureusna"?

Probably the same reason why you're checking the USMA forums, future Air Force cadet!

Actually, it's spelled "masochist", but don't beat yourself up over it (probably not an SAT word, either).

LMAO. Great word play.

I imagine he posted here because, although his heart is taken, he is applying to multiple academies just in case.

HAHAHAHAHAHA good one!

Thank you for the correction. Also, bad word choice by me.

I was extremely ignorant toward USMA when I created my account

No big deal. Here are three tips to improve your chances:

1) Install a pull-up bar in your kitchen doorway and use it every day
2) Acquire an SAT practice test book and take the exams using a timer.
3) Eschew superfluous words like "extremely" and "very" in your writing.
