My DS was awarded a NROTC 4-yr scholarship assigned to VMI (his #2 choice on scholarship package). We was wait listed at VMI (his application was rather tardy but his application package is very competitive.
DS was accepted at VT (#1 choice on scholarship package) but DS can't transfer scholarship to VT b/v Pensacola has closed their transfer wait list.
The only possibility for the NROTC scholarship is an admission to VMI. It's a long shot at this point given that he is wait listed and also made a few other fumbles in the application process -- so many life lessons have been learned but as you know, hindsight is 20/20.
We spoke with an admission counselor yesterday and took a deserved teeth drilling. They said they won't know how their class enrollment looks until after 1 May (deadline to accept).
Can anyone speak with experience to some questions, please?
1) Generally, how many wait listed candidates are offered admissions?
2) Are wait listed candidates selected in order on the wait list, or is the process still competitive at this point?
3) Any chance that the NRTOC scholarship will help tip the scale in DS favor?
4) Do you advise a personal visit with admission counselor and/or VMI's NRTOC to plead, beg, grovel, or otherwise throw oneself down for mercy?
5) Pensacola advises that VT's transfer list is closed, long shot, should DS still submit request? Crazy but...
Thanks in advance for your help. The greatest desire is to utilize the NROTC scholarship to honor Navy's confidence in DS as a future naval officer.
Last note, we have give DS the option of VT without the scholarship but the scholarship means more to DS than anything else.
