I'm curious about the active duty opportunities after graduation. Does every Midshipman have the opportunity if they wanted too? Let’s say I wanted to go surface warfare in the Navy or a cutter in the Coast Guard, would these options definitely be available?
Thanks

Definitely available, definitely not guaranteed.

There are active duty reps on staff at KP from each service that can help you research and achieve your goals.

Available - most likely
Guaranteed - definitely not

Can't speak for the Coast Guard, but I know that the number of slots available fluctuates every year. Total numbers authorized on active duty is a number set by congress and if few people are leaving the service in a given year, few are getting in.

And understand, there are many programs feeding into those DCO spots.... not only KP... so it's very slim.

Does anyone have stats on how many actually apply for active duty by branch and how many actual earn a spot?

What would cause a cadet not to be able to go active duty (ie grades, major, physical fitness, etc)?

Major would only matter if you want to be a nuke. Otherwise, all of the above.

When I graduated I didn't hear of anyone who didn't get a slot who wanted one, but times are tough these days and less people are getting out of the military so they will be letting less people in. That means that standards are higher so everything will be a determining factor
