Field Training Graduation

Hi all, just a question tonight. Is there a graduation ceremony from USAF field training that parents attend? My older son is enlisted USAF and we attended his graduation from basic. My second son is hoping to be selected for FT this summer, and we just weren't sure if there was a similar ceremony for them or not.

From the 2012 FTM:

"If you have family or friends that wish to attend your graduation parade they may attend the parade held on TD28. If you have someone that wants to attend you must inform your flight commander no later than TD20. If your visitors cannot gain access to Maxwell AFB you will be required to provide the following information to your flight commander:
1. Names (alphabetical order)
2. Drivers License number (if over 16 years old)
3. SSN and Date of Birth (for visitors under 16 years old)

You will be responsible for providing your visitors that do not have access to Maxwell AFB procedures on how to enter the base. Your flight commander will provide you with this information.
If you have visitors you will be allowed to visit with them immediately after the parade. You will be allowed to show them your dorm room and the OTS training campus. Additionally, you will be allowed to have lunch with them but are restricted to facilities located on Maxwell AFB AL. You must report back to your flight no later than 1300 the same day."

I don't know any parents that attended SFT graduation for their children. I am sure there are some, but they would be the minority and probably live close enough to do the day trip. The selected cadets do not get their orders until April or later, and some will have to be there in June, thus logistically it is not an easy or cheap feat for many parents. As stated they also only get to spend a couple of hours with their children. Even flying back they will be on govt orders, and will have to fly the ariline, and flight that the AF stated, so unless you are going to make sure you can be on his flight, you won't see him that way either.


This graduation is not like BCT for enlisted. Their graduation that is comparable would be when they commission as an officer.

Our ds was told that we can come to graduaton...which we probably will....road trip lol!

REAPER: I thought graduation was on the 27th day and they fly home on the 28th...we are going to graduation I hope...we will drive. I thought it read after graduation they can show you around the dorm and eat lunch but they have to be back with their flight group by 1300. I know my son told us they would be taking the cadets to the airport on the 28th by 1200. I hope I remembered everything right.

I just read my itinerary and it said that the parade was in fact on the 27th day at 9:30 in the morning. The 28th day we depart at 6 in the morning.
