Hope to see a lot of you at West Point this next week. Thanks for all the support. Good luck to everyone else competing for the class of 2017. One final question before I go though. If say I perform close to the average scores on most of the cfa, (please don't comment with something like the averages are the minimums or you should be seeking the best you can possibly do because I understand that. I'm just saying some of my events are closer to the averages since I know my own skill) will that take away from the chance of receivng a loa? In other words, suppose I have the academics and EC activities to allow me to receive a loa and my cfa isn't perfect, will that mess up my chances to receive one?

I don't know that anyone can really answer but I wouldn't think so. However, you're worrying about nothing. You'll either get an LOA or you won't. LOAs are extremely rare. Your plan should be to just do the best you can and follow the normal application process. If an LOA falls out of that, great. If not, no worries. You'll still have excellent chances of being accepted.

BTW, physical fitness is something you and they can work on. Ultimately, you need only show you are accustomed to participating in a PT program and show an inclination for it over time. IMHO that's the real purpose of the physical testing and emphasis on athletics.

Just got back from SLS session one and the way they put it is that it really won't have a bearing on your application. They made it out to be more of a standard in order to keep out people who are not physically fit. Also, they said 40% of the males did not pass and 60% of the females did not pass. That being said, there were also a lot of candidates who maxed several events. So don't get too worried about it if you can meet the averages.

The CFA accounts for 10% of the WCS... It's no small thing. Sure, SATs/ACTs are far more important, as they account for 30% of the WCS, but I'm not sure if you'd want to apply without squeezing every point out of those 10% that the CFA offers...

That's during SLS, right? Because one cannot be admitted if he does not pass the CFA (minimums are not known by anyone outside the Academy, I think). Keep in mind those guys, if they really want an appointment, will pass the CFA. Just because they didn't pass it during SLS doesn't mean they won't pass it in the future.

The head of admissions for my area said that the CFA will not make or break your application, which is why they do not encourage retaking it unless you failed it

And yes, those stats are from SLS session 1. But the way they conveyed it is as a standard to ensure candidates are in shape more than anything.

That being said, you still want to try your best. But if you can pass it with average scores then you should worry more about raising test scores than maxing the CFA
