If all things are equal are girls given any extra weighting over boys with regards to admission?

I've heard it's actually more competitive for girls than it is for boys.

Because they are actually Women and during recent years there has been a significant rise in the number of Women's applications to all Service Academys. They compete with everyone else on the same basis. They are no longer a sought after underrepresented group at the Academies. So it gets tougher just like for the Men.

If you look at the basic statistics, females account for roughly 20% of the Brigade. As to the question if admission propects are different for males or females only the admissions office would know for sure, but from an individual perspective it does not matter.

Think of the admission process like a fish ladder. It has 4 parts, each part requires focus and disipline to complete. Each part has to be succcessfully completed just to reach the pool of applicants that will be qualified to compete for Appointment. The process weeds out the lazy and non-commited. The admissions office makes their selections from the pool of applicants who are qualified to compete. This is a very simplistic explination of the process but it's all you need to know.

If this is something you want you are going to have to compete for it.

Admissions at USNA have been gender neutral for about the past 15 years. This statement has been made by USNA Admissions on numerous occasions.

So, to answer your question . . . zero advantage for women in the process.
