LDAC 2012

Thanks for the good wishes. My son is on his way to the first session in 4 days! He wanted to get it out of the way early in the summer!

I bet he must have been so excited to go. I was able to call my son last year while he was there. You can never get used to them being away from home but you will see that he is doing what he really wants to do. It takes a little off the edge of him not being home.

Any word from the first couple of classes?

My son called me this past Tuesday night from Fort Lewis just before they collected their cell phones. He was anxious but ready to get it going. We won't be able to communicate with him again for 3 weeks.

Wishing him good luck but I am sure he will do fine making his own luck!

Best of luck to him.

Make sure you have your questions ready when he calls, their first phone call home is a pretty short one.

Is your son doing anything after LDAC such as CTLT or a Training school. Don't be surprised if he tells you when he calls, "Hey I'm heading to North Carolina or some other place for 3 weeks" The cadets can sometimes secure some sort of training or CTLT during LDAC if they aren't already set up before they arrived.

Packer, thank you for the good wishes. He prepared very well for it. He really wants to earn that "E".

Jcleppe, yes he is doing CTLT right after LDAC... in Germany! He was really excited to get it because only the top cadets in his battalion had the possibility of getting that slot. We were proud he was one of them. He was assigned the CTLT slot in late April at the same time he was given his LDAC date.

It is amazing the opportunities our sons and daughters have due to their involvement in ROTC!

Why is the Connecticut Lottery (CTLT) being conducted in Germany?

Seriously, it sounds like a great opportunity that he worked hard to get. Does he go straight from LDAC to CTLT? Which branch is he assigned to?

Ha, ha! Wouldn't mind winning a lottery on top of it all.

He literally leaves the day after he is done at LDAC. He is flying across the country commercial and then picks up a military flight from the east coast to Germany. I sure hope it's one of their charter flights that is like a regular airline type plane as opposed to the cargo hold of a troop transport.

He is going to Bamberg with the 16th Sustainment Brigade.

Wow! These are very impressive numbers. Sounds like they have a great group of future leaders. ROTC has been very competitive over the last few years. These results show how impressive are these upcoming classes of officers. Much more work to do. Best wishes to them all.

Cadetmom, best wishes to your son. Sounds like he got a great slot for CTLT and it was well deserved. Keep us posted. He has a busy summer.

Here's the names of those who got the top scores from 1st reg. Does anyone know if the LT's are grading or is it the drill sergeants?

re: wrote signoff, a gazelle doesn't need to be faster than a lion, only faster than the gazelle next to it. :)

Found the answer myself... They just posted pictures of the PT test. Looks like drill sergeants are grading. Interesting. I wonder if they will grade next year too because there will be a new PT test implemented. Here's the pictures http://www.flickr.com/photos/warriorforge/

There was a lot of grumbling last year from the NCO's at my son's school about how the APFT was graded. In a conversation I had with them they said that they observed several APFT's and and saw huge discrepancies in the grading, while they thought the form was perfect the new LT's would not be counting them. They told me they had been in discussions with LDAC leadership about having the NCO's do the grading. If your correct and the NCO's are now grading that could account for the higher scores and more even scoring.

He's lucky on two points. 1. He got Germany. 2. He leaves the day after. I left 4 hours after graduation.

Well I am back home for the summer and I drove by North Ft. Lewis to talk to one of my cadre working at LDAC. The whole operation really seems to be in full swing. I think I saw 2nd reg (my reg last year) doing the 2 mile portion of the APFT! Glad I am not them!

It's an amazingly nice day here in the PNW. 75-80 clear skies and no humidity

My question is.. for the averages that I posted earlier... are they averaging in the supermax scores with the other scores, or are they doing "well if you got a 376 on the PT test then the extra 76 is just for bragging rights as we cannot average in those points as you have already maxed that category". Scores sure are different this year considering NCO's are grading. I'll be excited to see what the new PT test will bring.

Yes, scores above 300 are averaged in. That's what they scored, that's what's recorded. Ive never heard anyone outside of WP use the term "supermax". Interesting little word.
