How much time does a cadet get off if they file the paperwork for leave (family wedding) during school year (august).
 
First of all when in august,second of all I doubt they give it to him,third of all it's form SSS and would probably take him 3 weeks but that's not for sure. NOt trying to give bad news, just truth as I see it
Time off depends on days he has accrued and AOC... sorry thought we were talking about a doolie

Just a few curiosity questions.

1. Family member can mean anything from cousin to sibling. Which is it, because that may have an impact on the decision.

2. How is it that they didn't know already the date?

Hornetguy is someone I would PM, because I know for a fact he was eligible to attend a function in August, not a wedding, but a significant event. I believe he was a C2C.

I am not trying to be Debbie Downer, but the reality is in ADAF life they will miss big family occasions. They will be missed by the family, but if they go they will also have the stress of keeping up with academics. Goes back to my first question, family member? Is it really that important they are there for Aunt Joan's wedding, or cousin Tim's? Sister Sarah I get.
 
To add to Pima; the "WHO" and "WHY" is very important. While my son was at the academy, the possibility of taking an extended weekend for a family function was almost not even considered. (Things changed so it became a moot point ). However; this past February when my son's grandmother passed away, it wasn't even an issue. My son's AOC and squadron bent over backwards to get him on a plane to be with his family for the funeral. His teachers rescheduled exams for when he came back. So the "WHO" and "WHY" definitely matter.
 
Thanks for info. Son is a c2c and has the date approved already for sisters wedding. We just are trying to figure out flight info so he gets back to USAFA in time on Sunday.
 
You can leave for a "Once in a lifetime event" like a sibling's wedding.
Also, if you have a family emergency then you will be authorized emergency leave.
 
Also, if you're a cadet in good standing and it is a blue weekend they will usually let you go...
 
they are good people they will accommodate you if you need to attend something, even if its a few weeks out of basic. they usually want 14 days notice for SSS’s but if it is a “once in a life time” event (which a wedding or funeral would be) they might let you rush it, but its a squadron thing so it will of course be squad by squad. One thing is sure, if he/she doesnt send up the paperwork he/she wont be leaving, no reason not to try.
