I know there is no definitive answer, but is there any experience of when calls home get made. In the briefing they said our DS' company would be able to make there first call on 7/6 or 7/7... Is there any timeframe during the day? Is here any specific order (I.e company A then company B etc...)... If they do not get an answer on the home phone can they make another call to our cell? The cell service at our house is not good, so we have been waiting around for the call..

Thanks, we are not should what to expect and I am sure that goes with the territory.

There is no real order and it's based on the cadre. When I was cadre last year we were told when we could start and when we needed to be done by. This time span was roughly 2 days long and we allowed them to make the calls during white space. If nobody answered then the next person would go and that person would just try again later. I worked with my New Cadets to make sure they all would get a chance to call during times their parents would be availible and expect the cadre now are doing the same. I suspect your New Cadet knows how bad the signal is at your house since he lived there and will call your landline at a convenient time. If not, I am confident that the cadre will work with him to get in contact with you so there is nothing to worry about. :thumb:

No specific schedule. The Plebes go to various Officer houses or other places at WP that day. The number of phones varies from place to place. If they are lucky and are invited to an officer's home, they will get to call you for sure - however the time varies. Stay by your phone that day. I know that last year this was a "catch as catch can" process.

Got our call tonight. Sounded upbeat and in good spirits. No real complaints except about getting up to early.

BigNick, I think you're referring to the halfway point phone calls, made on Ice Cream Social Day in late July; the first one, which probably happened last week, is ashort one made as time permits in each company's activities. I say "probably" because our group of parents found that all new cadets were offered the chance to make the quick check-in call, but not all took it -- a few preferred to just power on through and not think about home, and more, mine included, used the call for boyfriend/girlfriend.

On the ice cream social day, cadets are hosted by post families and have a little more chance to relax and make more than one call.

I would encourage anyone who hasn't to join the West Points Dads or Moms Group on Facebook. These groups help you to stay connected and were one of the first sources that indicated calls were being made. (And which companies they were coming from)

Thanks for the plug, NJDAD! The West Point Moms group is private and requires an admin to "click" you in. You must have your own facebook account (not shared w/ a spouse). We have had over 100 new 2016 moms join this week!
