AFROTC is like AROTC with limited boards, and if I am correct they have the latest 1st board, which is typically giving out the 1st scholarships in January. Be prepared for the fact that they may re-board your child. In other words at the 1st board they didn't have a large enough pool to decide if or what type of scholarship they should offer her. It has become more and more common over the past few yrs, due to the size of the application pool.
As others have stated accepting the scholarship is not binding, they can actually hold onto the AFROTC scholarship up to reporting for I-Day. Many, many recipients do exactly that. Reason is simple. G forbid they get to I-day and medically turned back, they have the scholarship to fall back on. Some kids play spring sports and can get injured in the end of May(broken bones), making it impossible to report for I-Day, but cleared for AFROTC in Aug/Sept.
People always have an issue with this regarding if it is fair or not. IMPO, it is a personal decision for them to make, AFROTC allows it, thus they have no ethical issue with it.
Off topic, but on topic. If you look on the AFA thread you will see that kids already were medically turned back, and now the kids are scrambling for fall enrollment. This too is a hot topic. Start talking now about whether you are willing to pay the deposit to the college as Plan B JIC. For some they will roll the dice, and allow the college to pull someone off the wait list, for others they want the safety net in place. For even some more they place the deposit at the safety of safety schools over the Plan B AFROTC school, because it will be only for a yr ...hopefully. It sounds easy, but once you are in the thick of it, and everyone starts offering advice/opinions it because very hard to call the ball due to the fact that everyone's opinion gives you another, BUT if we do this one...
