I currently take Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Krav Maga, and by the time I graduate high school it will be for 3 years. Looking at old posts I see that its hard to count this as 'athletics', but it may work as a spin if you were doing it in contest also. Would belts be a way to show the legitimacy, or would proof of competition and success be the best way to count this in any way, or will it even help me?

Also, I am interested in languages, and I am studying Spanish, Italian, Swahili (Which I have 2 weeks of immersion in Africa on mission trips) and in the future Russian, German and French. Could I take language proficiency tests to demonstrate my ability, or will this help at all in the application?

I strive to do activities in high school that I enjoy and that will enhance my life.and I understand the requirements for West Point (athletics, leadership, athletics). Do you think these will help me, or is it just an 'additional activity' to put down?

Thanks

Activities

Texan,

I completed my Candidate Activities Record last week, so hopefully this will answer some of your questions.

When you complete your Candidate Activities Record (CAR), you will be able to mark that you participated in Martial Arts. There is also a check box for achieving your Black Belt. As far as showing proof of your activities, you will need to show your awards or certificates to the school counselor/administrator who is verifying your CAR.

I believe that you will also be able to mark what languages you know/are learning. There is also a section that allows you to explain any foreign study you have been involved in.

The CAR doesn't always let you show what you have been involved in or achieved. If you have a resume that lists all of your accomplishments, I would send it to your FFR. Also, you could personally get in contact with your Admissions RC and explain to him in greater detail your activities and accomplishments.

I don't mean to steal your thread, but I have another similiar question about the CAR. Where did you goes put your volunteer work under? I was thinking about just putting it under other extracurricular activities, but I don't know.

Have your coach write a letter to the admissions office covering what you do, as to how many hours a week your practice and what level you are. So if the admissionss office has any question, they can review your admissions file and see the letter for your coach.
