Has anybody received an invoice for the tuition for this year?

I finally asked my DS about it and he forwarded an email which was sent to him. In the past, the bill was sent to the parents, who I am guessing in 95% of the cases, are the payers of the tuition.

But beyond that, the link to the invoice included in the email to DS does not open from 2 different computers in our house. Is anybody else experiencing the same problem?
I need the actual invoice because the tuition is paid through our state.

Our DS also forwarded us the bill, and we could not open the attachment. We sent him an email and hopefully we can then receive the information. It is getting close to the start of school and we would also like to get this paid as soon as possible.

Have not received any invoice. Thanks for the posting though. We'll keep an eye out for it and we'll email the ds.

Update: DS was able to open his bill that was emailed to him, and forward it to us, so we then had a copy of the bill. I hope this helps.

My DS did the same thing. He just forwarded the email without reading it. It does state in the message..."If you are not making the payment yourself, download the invoice and forward to whomever is making the payment."

Conflicting Information here

The information below is what the state parent's associations received from the national parent's association in early July regarding invoices for academic fees for this school year. Looking at this I would then be concerned that we are all waiting for something via regular mail but it sounds like some mids have received something in email, our DS has not. So, will they all be on restriction upon return when no one has paid their fees yet? Hard to understand this. Please read below -- I would welcome information from you all as we are ready and waiting to pay our fees but don't know amounts yet -- semper gumby once again!!
(PS - just to clarify, I am the mom of the DS, not his dad, just couldn't get my account to work today but wanted to submit something to you all)

This came from Suzanne Graboski, National Parent's Association:

"Good Day all!
I just spoke with Capt. Kennedy regarding the billing/invoice for midshipmen fees this year and he informed me the invoices will be sent to the home address. The hold-up is getting clearance/approval for this year’s Fees; it has to work its way through the fiscal approval chain in DC. Once the Fees for this year are approved the invoices will be sent out. He does not know at this time when that approval will come though. That being said there is move to migrate the system through which KP “administer” M/N. The intent, once the new system is in place, is to have the invoices sent to the Midshipmen, but they don’t anticipate that occurring until the 2nd and 3rd Trimester.
For now, the 2016 kids’ first invoice will be sent to the home address."

Our DS received his bill through the academy's campus email. He is on campus working indoc. It was my understanding that the midshipman received their bills through the academy email. I am guessing the 2016 candidates will receive paper bills because their computers are usually not available until after indoc. However one of the other parents, or the Parents Association would know more about this process. We are still fairly new at this.

Pay dot Gov?

Any ideas on how to pay via the pay.gov website when you don't know the invoice number or the amount? Has anyone had any success calling the school to get the info needed to pay on-line; if so, who? (We still haven't been able to "decode" the email sent to DS)

Only the students can "open" the invoice, because it can only be done on the USMMA server. Email your DS and ask him to open the link, download it and then email you the actual invoice. Hope this helps!

What I have learned

Hi all -- I learned yesterday from a contact at KP that there have been many problems with the system of paying the fees and that KP is aware of the problems. Generally speaking, plebe parents received invoices via regular mail and all other mids are getting them only via school email. Parents of mids are not going to be receiving invoices at home, unlike Capt. Kennedy first said. Lack of communication there. Yes, it is true that we parents can't just follow the instructions they gave on the mids' emails, due to IT issues but your mid can pay it from school. And, yes, we can't just pay it on the pay.gov without knowing the invoice number, which none of us can access due to the IT issues, craziness. But there is hope below.

We think we have figured out how your student's id number correlates to the invoice number year by year but verify this with the academy. Below is a sample invoice number and a great contact at KP who was a great help to me yesterday on the phone.

By the way, the helpful person I contacted was surprised that we parents don't already know our mids invoice numbers. I don't think the academy understands that unless they tell parents things, we don't know them and even the mids didn't know that there had been these changes. Clearly, more direct communication is needed.

invoice sample:
000 (default) + current year + grad year + 3 digit no of your mid
example: 0001215624 (12= current yr, 15 = grad yr., 624 = mids no.)
Your mid was given a 5-digit no. upon arrival as a plebe which ends up being the grad yr plus the 3 digit (in this case: 15624, as you see above)

The contact I have which was eluded to on the invoice is:
Tilak Shanmugan
USMMA/Office of Academy Operations

ShanmuganT@USMMA.EDU

She was really great. Hope this helps.

tuition?

What is the Tuition at the USMMA? I believe there are PC-fee's, is that annually or once? Not seeing it on their website, any help appreciated! thx

Tuition

We received an snail mail invoice for 3 payments (about $300 or so per semester). Most of the expense was for dry cleaning

Tuition varies

Tuition at USMMA depends upon the student's class and Split. If a student is a 1C (1st class, a senior) their bill will not be the same as a plebe or a student who is a 2C or 3C, who is also going on sea year. Several factors effect how much the students pay each trimester/year. It's best to check with the academy if you think there is an error or are unsure about an invoice you receive.

The tuition is paid by the United States government in return for service after graduation. The fees you pay are for incidentals, ie barber, laundry, dry cleaning, tailoring, and insurance (less than $300.00 per trimester) for each of the 8 trimesters spent at school. There are no fees for the time spent at sea, as a matter of fact you get paid for you sea time (approximately $1,000.00 per month).

The details can be found in the course catalog located at: http://www.usmma.edu/admissions/catalog.shtml

Starting with the class of 2016 incoming students are required to report with a laptop. This is a very specific laptop that meets certain government standards so it is best to buy it at the Navy Exchange (NEX) located at the academy. I heard it was around $1,600 to $1,700 and is a one time purchase

Also Plebes have to buy a Plebe kit that was around $265.00 and then a deck or engine kit (once they decide their major) which was another $100 to $150 in September of their plebe year. Both can be bought at the NEX.

Now the amount

DS working Indoc also & went in person to ask.
Info on numbers corelates with what we learned.
Last three numbers on original mailed to us for payment
when they were Plebes. Now the amount - $557 for my
DS class of 2015/A-split
Interesting that info was not able to be communicated to us
directly as Parents - I called also & they told me they could not tell
me.

I am so curious who you got hold of when you called. It is disappointing that they won't tell you things. In my previous post I did give the contact information for a very helpful employee at KP. I hope she did not give you the brush-off. She was very willing to talk to a parent when I asked her things.
I wonder if this academy will evey learn that we parents aren't always helicoptering, often we are just trying to do the right thing; like pay a bill. Hard to understand, this is.

This is actually pretty typical, and KP is slow to start working this way. Over three years ago, DS's school, a small state university, went to electronic bills and only sent them to the student. The student had to give the parents permission to access the account to make payments. Yes, it's painful, and there are some hiccups in the implementation, but it is not unique to KP.

Just to clarify, aren't there 9 trimesters (=3 years on campus)? So there are no incidental fees during the sea year (1+2 trimesters) because M/N are not making use of the services the fees pay for while at sea?
I saw in the catalog where it was mentioned M/N receive pay, but didn't see where it said specifically there were no fees due the academy during the sea year period.
