I paid DS's North Georgia Tuition today

hey Coach Bart. We submitted my daughters application to North georgia today for the Fall of 2013. Her application status says "Ready-in process for review". How long did it take from that point to hear if your DS got accepted? My daughter is chomping at the bit lol

DS was waitlisted and was on hold for about a month after he submitted his application and then one day his status just changed to accepted. So it was about a one month wait. PS, since you are applying so early I dont think you will have an issue with being waitlisted. DS applied late because he was still undecided because he was being recruitd to wrestle and was waiting for all of the final offers etc.

Thanks! My daughter really wants to know. North Georgia is her first choice and she wants in really bad. its been about a week and a half since her status changed so hopefully it will be soon.

North Georgia Wait

My Son was accepted for Fall 2013, the wait was around 3 weeks from the time he posted the online application and sent his transcripts. He is at basic train at fort jackson now. He graduates 8/9/2012. We are so proud of him. North Georgia was his choice after the challange weekend trip. We have been on campus 3 times and we just love it. Can't wait to see our future Lt.

Thanks. My daughters stuff has trickled in. Her transcript was sent on June 6th. She interviewed there on June 16 (for the ROTC Scholarship). She completed the application that very weekend because she loved the school so much. We sent her birth certificate the following week. She took the ACT on June 9 and did much better than the SAT so we submitted them on July 2. That made her application complete. She is chomping at the bit... Also, not sure where you are but I live 15 mins from Fort Jackson!

We live in...

Mayland, just a few minutes outside of Washington, D.C. There are over 1 million people in our county alone so Dahlonega is a huge change of pace.

Sadly, my daughter got waitlisted for the Fall of 2013. Cant believe they have filled that class already. She is absolutely devestated.

Hathcoam - I am sorry that your dd didn't receive better news. The bright side is she was waitlisted, not denied.

At this point in time, a waitlist decision does not mean that North Georgia has filled the class for next fall - what it likely means is your daughter's stats are below average for the incoming class that NG hopes to assemble. They are essentially holding out to see who else applies before making a decision about your daughter.

If this is something your daughter truly wants, she has a window of opportunity to strengthen her application before the class is truly filled. She should prep and then re-take the ACT to try and improve her score, really focus on her GPA this fall, and do her best to secure leadership positions in the organizations that are meaningful to her. Above all, keep admissions updated on any positive changes to her stats. She needs to give them a reason to pull her off the waitlist.

Best of luck to your daughter. If North Georgia doesn't work out, improved grades and scores will only help to secure her an alternative school she will be happy with.

It's too early to worry...

As I said earlier, my son was waitlisted and he still was accepted before all was said and done. A lot can happen between now and fall of 2013. As stated by other posters your daughter has plenty of time to bolster her "other" activities and leadership positions at school ie clubs and sports. But during the college process I can honestly say the best advice we received was have plans B,C, & D ready if plan A does not work out. It takes a lot of pressure off if you do. Good luck.

Thanks guys. She missed the mandatory 2500 point freshman index by 40 or60 points. Her ACT scores were pretty good (24) but her gpa is low 2.8. She hopes to bring it up. Unfortunately North Georgia looks at nothing but gpa and ACT scores. The exception is if they still dont have the numbers to fill their beds then they will look at the students that fell below 2500 and then look at their whole person score. That isnt done until feb. We begin the waiting game for now...

PS She has already been accepted into Liberty and has applications pending for Lander and Campbell but she really wants to go to a SMC. She says that Norwich is too far (17 hrs away), VMI/Virgina Tech/Texas A and M do not have her majors.

That was informative. I didn't know anything about a freshman index score. My son had a 3.4 (all honors) and a 1600 SAT. He was very strong in extra curriculars in having 4 yrs of JROTC (leadership position), captain in football & wrestling, member of Track team, leader of 2 clubs in school, lots of outside activities like church, youth group, missions, and something like 300 hours of volunteer service. My son applied to and was accepted to Norwich, VMI, Citadel, & North Georgia. He was also accepted to Liberty like your daughter. At first North Georgia was not in his plans but as time passed it became his #1 choice, even choosing to attend North Georgia instead of wrestling for the Citadel which has an NCAA D-1 team. I love North Georgia and I really love getting in state tuition! Another option we looked at that you may like is the Early Commissioning Programs at schools like Marion Military Institute and Georgia Military College. My son was actually offered 2 yr scholarships to both of those schools. So another option your daughter could look at if she is not removed from the waitlist is to attend a school with the ECP program for 2 years and then transfer into North Georgia. She would already be a 2nd Lt because its an accelerated course and she would be required to complete her 4 yr degree at another institution of her choice. You can go to those websites and learn more. I think there are only 5 colleges with the ECP program. Good luck.

Thanks Coach Bart. My daughter has phemenonal whole person attributes: 7 yrs of band, 6 yrs of cheer (lettered twice), Science Olympiad, gifted artist, involved woth church, pageants, animal volunteering and the list goes on (her resume is like 4 pages) plus she has wonderful recommendations (one for a 23 yr Army SFC and one from her history teacher). Her GPA is low because she is just not a math wiz and has struggled since Alg 2. They also recalculate your gpa to take out everything but core classes so her gpa was even lower. She has taken all honors and AP classes and passed her AP English Exam.
For Info heres the freshman index calculations:
FI = GPA x 500 + SATM + SATCR. If you take the ACT, calculate your FI by multiplying your GPA times 500 and adding your ACT composite score times 42 and add 88: FI = (GPA x 500) + (ACT composite x 42) + 88.

So for my daughter: (2.75 gpa*500)+(24ACT*42)+88= like 2471

Im not sure if she retakes the ACT if they will take her off waitlist. Even one more composite point above the 24 would get her above the 2500 mark

Wow

Wow, those are great accomplishments, ps, I could NEVER figure out that formula. Congrats to you!

Yeah I know the formula is insane lol. The good news is Lt Col Antonia says that if they make the decision to lower the Freshman Index from 2500 in December to fill their beds then she will get in. He also said that if they do not choose to do that then when Feb rolls around the board will look at all of those that did not meet 2500 and look at their whole person score. He said her whole person score is off the charts (PS even her PT is good. The ONLY thing holding her back is her GPA ugh). We are lucky that we have a Plan B in that she was just accepted to Campbell and received a 9000/yr scholarship from them.

Squeaky wheel gets the "grease" - Keep sights on NG

GREAT notes from CoachB and Jcc123. "Waitlisted" is just a process. FALL 2013 is another year off. Cadet Admissions can only "best guess" at this point how many applicants they will get for that school year. Continue to take the ACT (highly encourage vs. SAT) and would encourage her to do a Weekend with the Corps visit. GREAT school and program...have one in FROG week now...another two students applying for next Fall. Having many years experience with Texas A&M, I am convinced NG has the best program and the best interest of students success. I know it's hard coming from out-of-state, but think perserverance will pay off for her.
