With the academic calendar already out.
I understand the time it takes for a bus ride to Denver International or Colorado Springs Airport should be factored in.
If leave starts Friday, what would preclude a doolie from being able to fly out that evening?

Usually nothing. They have to usually wait for LMD (last military duty) of the day before they can leave. This can be anything from last class in some squadrons to last event scheduled for the day, at times they can leave after a meal (LMD for that day) sometimes this can be lunch, some times there is training on the day they leave and then your guess is as good as anyone else's as to what time they will be released. At this point it is speculative at best. If they can get the ride to the airport, so much the better. Just don't pin your hopes on one specific flight out. It may or may not work best for your cadet. I, too, worry about these things, but have learned to be more flexible over the last two years with my 2014 cadet. Usually it is only a few hours difference. If I book the ticket and she wants to change it, she pays the change fees. FLEXIBILITY is KEY!!

There used to be a master calendar of military training called the "skittles chart" due to the way everything was color coded... Thanksgiving leave usually starts at the end of a major training event, and there will be a time that cadets are "not allowed" to book plane tickets earlier than as you can't get out of the final outbrief early.
