Multiple Remedial codes

When the DoDMERB sends out the Remedial request, are all sent together? The DoDMERB information page only list my DS as having a Remedial code 252.10 (Allergies Questionnaire) and states a letter has been sent. I expected to see one needing additional color blind testing (USNA candidate, and do not believe he performed well on the PiP test). Will this remedial (and possibly others) show up later or are they only interested in his hay fever issues?
Thanks

There is a difference between remedial and waiver.

Remedial means they are asking for more information(questionnaire) before the decision of Q/DQ is made.

Waiver means that they are DQ'd and the branch, in your case Navy requests him to go through the waiver process. Typically additional exams not questionnaires for you to fill out.

I have not seen in the 4 yrs here someone get a remedial for color blind issues, I have only seen them go directly to the waiver process. Not saying it doesn't happen, just saying for certain medical issues they can jump the remedial and go straight to the DQ/waiver process.

My guess is if he failed the vision, he will receive a DQ. You will have to wait for the Navy's decision to initiate a waiver. You cannot initiate it, just like you now have to wait for the questionnaire to be sent to him regarding allergies.

Out of curiosity why do you believe he failed the vision? Did the doc say he failed?

Pima,
thanks for the reply.
I thought I had read that if you were a USNA candidate and failed the PiP test (numbers/shapes imbeded in a field of color dots), then you would receive a remedial to go to a MTF to take the Farnsworth Lantern test.
Reason for hope was he is somewhat blue/green deficient and the Farnsworth Lantern checkes mostly red/green/white identification.
As for why I think he failed the PiP, per the instructions, you take the test, and if you miss more than x slides, the you retake it for two more attempts. The number of misses on the two retakes must be below some number. After he took the initial test, the eye doc had him take the retest but stopped him after the 1st retest pass. I assumed he did not do the 2nd pass as he problably already missed more than he was allowed to for both retest passes.

DO NOT READ INTO MY POST TOO DEEPLY.

I truly stink at conversing on the net. My point was and is, don't assume remedial is just submitting additional paperwork aka questionnaire.

Pima,
I fully there is a lot of misinturpertation on forum questions and responses.

So, I still have my 1st question, and your response has made me wonder about a 2nd question:
1st - If the DoDMERB needs multiple Remedials for different items (either questionairs, or additional testing), are you notified of all at the same time (ie one letter identifing what needs to be done to clear up questions)? or will we posibly receive a 2nd (or more) additional Remedial letters with additional unrelated items needing info/testing?

Note: I understand the additional questions/testing can come from my response on a remedial questionair.

2nd - Am I correct that if you fail the Pseudoisochromatic Plate color test, and are a USNA, you typically are given a remedial for the Farnsworth Lantern test? or are you DQed, and the part of the waiver process may include the Farnsworth Lantern?

I pulled up some old threads and I hope this answers your questions.

Ny DS had two remedials and they were both listed in the same letter. He got one removed and a waiver for another, and was told he was medically cleared! :)

The FALANT is the final authority for the Navy. For DoDMERB, when he fails his PIP test, he will be automatically scheduled for a FALANT followup.

As noted, whether colorblindness will be waived depends on the service and accession program. For USNA it's an automatic DQ. Waivers are available to up to 2% of the class. They must agree to go USMC or a restricted line community where it is not disqualifying (Civil Engineering Corps, for example).

Was not going to quote anything here because I think all of the posts are important, I understand the poster was looking at from a CGA position, but it does give insight on what to expect and one post stuck out to me for you.
My DS (hey I'm getting the lingo down) started a small freak out yesterday when DoDMerb finally posted "Does not meet medical standards" instead of something like "remedial requested" which he was thinking he would see. Went over the flow chart on the DoDMerb site and showed him these responses and convinced him that he should be getting the remedial in the mail.

I hope these threads assist you in your quest for guidance.

Remember, this is really a case by case situation, and not one of us sits on the review board. We are here to support and guide when we can. For me, personally, I think the best guidance I can give you is linking you to previous posts that have walked in your shoes within the last yr or so, thus increasing your ability to understand the system more.

Re-reading your post you stated :

the you retake it for two more attempts. The number of misses on the two retakes must be below some number. After he took the initial test, the eye doc had him take the retest but stopped him after the 1st retest pass. I assumed he did not do the 2nd pass as he problably already missed more than he was allowed to for both retest passes.

Question is he does he have to take 2 retakes? Could it have been he passed with flying colors (no pun intended) on the 1st re-test, thus no need for the 2nd retake. I am like you, I hope for the best, prepare for the worst. This yr is a long roller coaster ride even without the DoDMERB issue, assumptions are not the path you want to walk down if at all possible.

I only ask because as you can see, your post a month, 6 months or a yr from now may assist someone just like you. It may calm their nerves, or assist them to be prepared for the next level.

My DS failed the PIP test, and got a remedial to take the Fransworth Lantern test (which does specifically test red, green and white). He was never DQ'd for color blindness since he passed the lantern test...

Ditto for us, DS failed PIP test and was immediately sent remedial letter... Went to Naval base last week and took Farnsworth Lantern, which he passed. Talked to Dodmerb today and they are updating his file and now no waiver should be necessary. I would call Dodmerb and check on the color vision results if I were you. They have been incredibly nice and helpful throughout this process!
