So here we are 6.5 weeks into the 10.5 weeks that make up "Phase 1" (ref: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?t=20218) of the 2012-2013 USMMA Regimental Calendar and how we looking for the Class of 2016?

Well we've already had the obligatory "Morale is Not Good Thread" - for "newbies" please understand I'm not being callous or insensitive (at least I'm not trying to be so). It's just that by way of recollection I seem to recall very similar threads/discussions on this forum during each of at least the prior two "Phase 1s" if not also during the first and second trimesters of the 2009-2010 years. Of course as I indicated once again the Classes of 2013 and 2014 are being treated to a new "administration" and these feelings seem to great each new leadership group at USMMA as "water seeks its level."

We've also had and are having the usual bit of controversy with more no doubt to come.

The Class of 2013 appears to have gotten through both the Senior Luau and Ring Dance without too much carnage - actually I know of none but I am out of touch on such matters so I'm taking my lack of insight as being good. If there was carnage that I was aware then there would likely be a larger than normal amount of carnage... and that wouldn't be good....

I've seen some rumblings that indicate at least some members of the forum and the class of 2016 are looking at things and taking them such that they are "eating the elephant one bite at a time." I've seen at least one member of 2016 indicate they are merely focused on getting to and through acceptance day - how's that for having an idea (the 8 phases) embraced.

On the positive side we have a new Superintendent who looks like he will be up to the job, indeed early indications he will be excellent at it.

We (the stakeholders at KP) have a strategic plan that is something to build upon.

The sports teams are now looking to get their fall seasons started:
- Cross Country (Men's & Women's) starts the season at the West Point Open in West Point, NY on 8/31;
- Women's Volleyball opens the season at home with the "Kings Point Invitational" 8/31 - 9/1 with games against Rutgers-Newark; New Rochelle; and SUNY-Farmingdale;
- Football kicks off against Susquehanna at Susquehanna on Saturday September 1; and
- Soccer season starts the season at home on September 1 against Springfield.

No doubt the 8/31 through 9/3 holiday weekend will be a full one on the waterfront as well - it usually is. With the offshore team participating in the Annual Stamford - Vineyard Race and the other teams Crew, Power Squadron and Dinghy also having their time on the water. The Intercollegiate Dinghy Team will be getting ready for the Anderson Trophy that will start their Fall Season at Yale on September 8th. These things will make for a busy full Labor Day weekend.

- Acceptance Day/Parents Weekend is now just four weeks away on 9/14-16 - concluding "Phase 1"...

- That is followed by Homecoming Weekend on its heels two weeks later
9/28 & 29, an event that means phase 2 is well underway.

Assuming the current weather trends hold it looks like both Acceptance Day/Parents Weekend and Homecoming Weekends should be very nice.

- Looking even further ahead, phase 2 this year is only 8 weeks for the Class of 2016 and combined with the fact it includes the final 6 weeks of first trimester classes, first trimester finals week and then the break between first and second trimesters - it should go very fast this year for the Plebe Class. For those that have kept their grades up that will be a good thing. For those struggling it means recovery will be even more challenging, so hopefully they and their peers will team up and help each other rise to the occasion.

Just some thoughts as August seems to rush to conclude...

I also have not heard any ring dance carnage. I have heard it was an incredible evening that will be treasured for a lifetime and the Sup made a great speech that was very well received by 2013.
Just saying :smile:

I agree - just looked at my turns of phrase and for some reason what I meant as a positive now doesn't look so much so when i read it back a couple hours later and I wish I could change that - my bad sorry.

I didn't read your post as negative. I was commenting because our often cynical DS was very moved by the evening. I wanted to share some good news on a forum where we all drift to the whiny on occasion.

Our thoughts as well with our DS. He was totally "wowed" by the evening (I told him Gotham Hall was a great venue, but he had to experience it for himself:wink:).

Jessibee,
Is "drifting to the whiney" kind of like rolling in the deep? Sounds like a song:rolleyes:
